Well, I've been mucking around for the past few days, you guys might be interested to check these out. Recorded with a Line 6 UX2 and Mixed with Ableton Live 7.0.3, completely DIY.

Do note, please do not bother with us if you don't like metal, after all, this is a metal act. I would say we're a cross between speed metal, thrash metal, power metal and progressive metal. Mostly progressive and thrash I guess.

Do hand me some comments here, constructive criticism is welcome too.

The stuff is up here

Thanks mates, be well!

nice stuff dude =D METAL FTW \M/

you sorta inspire me to shred and i still am shredding till this day. hopefully you will churn out much more high end stuff like this

;)

I just uploaded the correct version of Against The Odds. The one up there the whole of this afternoon was missing a reverse divebomb and had a very wrong solo at the start.

D: sorry guys.

You got decent skills. You got decent ideas. Not superb but not all that bad. The intro for "Der Kriegsgott" is a little weird IMO, but that's the only bit I'm complaining in terms of the composition.

Technicalities, mixing for the tracks is your biggest problem right now. The drums are barely heard and sound stock. And I think your guitar tone sounds brittle; too much high end. Your lead tone sounds even more brittle. Maybe cos your rhythm is taking away the frequencies of your lead.

I suggest that you record a stereo track for your rhythm work. One left, one right. That way you can hear your lead (and drums) properly.

Alright THOA, I've done what you told me, I did do multiple rhythm, tracks, except that I forgot to pan them left and right, silly absent-minded me.

I've made the drums more audible and EQ-ed everything abit here and there, I think it sounds alot better. I like the metallic touch on the guitars though.

Really appreciate such comments like yours man, makes the stuff I come up with sound better.

Yup.. sounds much better! A bit more polishing with the mix and yoru track would be set. But that would take a professional.

As for your tone, well that's subjective matter. If you like it then that's fine.

Cheers!

I don't know, but it might have sounded a little sharp due to the absence of a bass guitar, well, the bass track just went in about 5 minutes ago, updated and posted!

Keep 'em comments coming.

Lotsa thanks to THOA for the advice, helped alot!

You'll be surprised by the amount of work that is put in mixing by a professional. Metal is possibly the genre that mixers and sound engineers work on the most when it comes to producing.

The guitars for example will be set up in such a way that the best recorded sound and tone will be captured. After recording, the sound will be further edited. Tough considering how some guitarists can be ultra particular about their guitar tone. I think a sound engineer for metal albums get the worst stress.

Meh, I'm yakking.

overall i think they are nice tracks. i like the mediterranean feel to the 2nd track.

anyway, just wondering, how do you do the drum parts?
my band trying to DIY also.

normalise the finalised track with normalised function above 0db.

watch the value to prevent it from clipping.

if not, try this, copy the final track 3x, pan it to full left and the other same track, pan it to full right. Add another of the same track in the center. Bounce all 3 tracks into 1..
Watch the level as well, to prevent clipping.

Mixing-wise I thought the lead guitar was always too loud. Guitar seemed to be out-of-tune at certain parts. Timing on the guitar seems to be off on various places as well, especially in the fast parts. Musically, i feel most of it is really self-indulgent and forgettable, my 2cents.

After much painful trial and nearly fatal errors, I've re-did the mix, re-recorded some poorly played parts and such. Thanks for the comments guys, even for the exceedingly scathing ones like blank's, it helps me improve. =)

Uhh, blank, are you a metalhead? This will help me decide whether or not to consider your comments about the musicality as important to me or not.
