The amazing guitar bargaining skills

Lol... Haven't been gassing for awhile since I'm satisfied with what I have... come back after a long while and see that SOFT still has some of these drama taking place... Amusing.

Wah but the $666 Flying V really awesome... Hahaha... My reaction was totally like MadWerewolfBoy... I thought was a few grand to render a $200 discount!

More importantly, I hope those reading this thread know the lesson / moral of the story. If don't then... well... yeah we need a better education system...

Threads like these make me willing to come on soft during my weekend book outs.

Solution:

Lowball = ignore

Reserve = Subjective to the item's price. For higher priced items with reservations i'd ask for a downpayment.

Highball = Hardly ever happens. Don't think about it.

Just to share. There was a seller of a steinberger guitar asking for $1200.I sms him and offered him to trade my Roland keytar new $2200(6 mth old)or my fender twin (selling use $1400)he rejected as he want cash,I told him I dont have $1200 cash now.He replied,U never ask for discount ,so I give you $400 discount.
That was how much I had,soI got it>
Moral of the story,no win no lose, everyone happy.
$400 discount out of $1200 is okay.
$200 discount out of $666 is not okay.
I would try $550 and offer him a boss pedal.

It's not the same thing. The $400 discount was offered to you. The $266 discount was demanded by the other guy.

wow.. if i were to sell something for 1200 and someone offered me 800 i would considered it as low balling man

hehe, we all love discount and prolly would try our ways to ask for one in any situations, but on the very basic level, the way which we ask for this discount, is the one that would prolly determined the kind of response which we get from the seller.

demeaning the value of one instrument and making it as no one will buy it except us, prolly not a good way to solicit discount.

Value of discount is secondary outta this incident, its the way/process of asking for it, that started it, imho

Discount of any, is prolly entirely up to seller, intereted buyer can of course ask for it, either they will get it or get f.cuked instead.

HIGHBALLING!!!

everything here so negative.. let me share some habby stuff

back when i was in jc, i was selling my behringer pedal for $50 and everything was finalised with a cool bro. when we met and all he paid me $55 for it and apologised for being 15 mins late.

forgot his soft nick but that was totally cool, it wasn't a "keep the change" thing man!! =D

Its very subjective, but i won't consider that lowballing.

I probably wont deal if the counter offer is too far off from my asking price,
but 2/3 the posted selling price seems like a reasonable offer to start negotiation.
UNLESS, the seller posted something like
"dun even try to nego with me, price is firm firm firm .. if nego will post you as lowballer .. blah blah "

And what if the seller did not mention a asking price?
Then any offers would be valid and should not be considered lowball ?
cause the buyer has no clue of the sellers thoughts........

If a buyer states on his ad that the price is negotiable then it's very subjective. Usually its down to how desperate the seller is at clearing his item. This is another reason why I do not like putting my ads negotiable because lowballers will dare to lowball you simply because of the word "nego". So sellers, think twice before you put negotiable and get angry when someone lowballs you.

Offer price is another VERY ANNOYING thing going on in the classifieds. First of all people who do not know the market price of the item have no clue how much to offer, accidentally "lowball" the seller and get told off to go do research. What pisses me off even more when I ask the seller how much are you looking at, and they reply me your offer bro, and when I offer them a sum, they reply "too low". I don't have a clue why sellers do this actually. On the emporium in TGP sellers are not allowed to do this, mods will delete the ads if they fail to state a price.

This kinda educating on the forum has been done time and time again.

What's starting to disturb me now is that negative buyer/seller friction seems to be fuelling this forum. The threads started with proper gear review, seller appraisal and/or general gear whoring never get this much attention.

Human nature.. Happens everywhere, best example is the media.

I guess this is the best story.
A: Hi B wanna trade ur guitar (Sub 500 cat) with my vox amp ? Ac30
B:Hmm i'm not kind of looking at amps nowadays but which Ac30 are u talking about?
A:I bought at city music. AC30 amplug.

If I put an offer price,I would mention how much ebay worldwide is selling.and how much I am hoping to sell and if I need cash fast, any amount will do.But so far I can get 2/3 of my asking price.

+1 to this. Got ticked off by too many of such ads

I think those people who put best offer are just trying their luck to see if they can make a big profit. Realistically speaking, guitars are not as popular as hello kitty. you might get 5 interested individuals for your guitars tops. However if your guitar's price is irresistible, that is a different story altogether.

Fat hopes. Just look at the number of lowballers around, and nowadays buyers don't even know how to do research on the market price of items. Sellers will likely earn more by putting a firm price.

Lowballing aside, anybody else here gets sms-es at unearthly hours asking about your advert? So far, I've gotten queries at 1am, 4am and just recently 5.30am.

Zzz.
