The amazing guitar bargaining skills

So you know him, no wonder you are defending him now. But I agree that's another thing altogether. It doesn't relate to his insulting lowballing antics.

Your logic is totally flawed. Your logic is based on the assumption that a brand new MIJ Jackson costs $666 from the shops, which is far from the truth. I ever told him to go to any shop, pick up any MIJ guitar, and use his logic of "MIJ guitars not selling well now" to convince the shops to sell him MIJ guitar for $400, and see if the shopkeepers will chase him away with a broom or call the mental asylum.

The thing that irks me is not that he offered me $400 for my $666 guitar. What irked me was the fact that I already said clearly many times that price of $666 is firm, cos it is already damn low for a MIJ Jackson, yet he still did it, and with all the smartass remarks to boot.

You are selling a MIJ Jackson right now for $750 or $850, right? Why not you put your money where your mouth is, and sell to VENGEANCE for $400?

look here. VENGEANCE is a friend yes but that doesn't mean I agree with him totally. I'm not here to take the bullet for him, no sir. I just think it's pretty unfair to gang up on him. I mean, there has to be some right in all that wrong.

I used the word "maybe" because I cannot look into his brain and see how he thinks. what I meant was, he might be using the theory that even though it's a 2nd hand guitar, the prices are slashed accordingly like the first hand guitars. that is what I meant. it's an assumption that might be true and false at the same time. the possibility is not 0, would you agree with this? in that sense, I wouldn't say it's totally flawed.

Yes I'm selling both my Jacksons but he didn't express any interest in them. Even if he did offer me $400, I'll just decline and life moves on.

I'm not trying to find fault in any of your statements here. heck, I'm not even trying to find trouble. all I'm trying to do is see things from a different POV. if I've offended you in any way, I guess I owe you an apology. however, I don't deny that fact that you are pretty aggressive with your expression.

You are his friend, it's natural reaction for you to defend him, I have no bone to pick with you, but in your first post when you said "he can't be ALL wrong" and now saying people are "ganging up on him" and you going on to justify his lowballing as though he is doing me a favour, it's like you are saying it's my fault I'm being lowballed and talked shit to, and it's my fault this has gone public. You are his friend so you should dissuade him from such unlikeable behaviour.

It's pretty clear by now I've been putting up with this entire episode from start to finish, if I didn't put the word FIRM in my advert and I get lowballed so be it, but I put $666 FIRM, I get lowballed, I get talked shit to, I get pushed, and this is the result. As I said before, if you can't take the heat then don't start the fire. Not refering to you of course.

It amazes me how some people think that using insulting language and condescending tones with the seller would actually earn them brownie points and convince the seller to let the item go at a lower price. And who knows, the seller may be pissed off enough that he would sell the item to another buyer who offers him lower price out of spite, because the second chap was both friendly and sincere.

When the situation escalates to this stage, it may wise for the buyer to acknowledge the other side of coin. Instead of justifying any farther to make things worse. Pick up the courage to do the right thing and not the easy. The ripple effects are far reaching and it will be felt in the days to come.

Why would they? They have already reached the point of no return and have no shame left to lose. Backing down this far in only makes them 'lose face',in their eyes as a proud lowballer.

i put up my mij fender with tons of upgrades for 780 which is a rather reasonable price with all the specs, and a dude came and asked me whether i'll deal for 500. i told him to go for a mexican.

This was one of my replies to lastking in our email conversation,

"dude, dont have to be sarcastic, im just telling you facts, if your offended then i apologise but you dont have to put it this way"

I already apologised before and the reason why I'm not letting this go is because of his reply. Throughout the start, I never intended to say things the way you said i put it, its hard to convey TONE in emails and I apologise for that. And for the record I only contacted you just ONCE JUST ONCE. But I just think lastking's blast of cuss words in the next reply is really unnecessary. For me I didn't know that the price would offend you and frankly I had a friend who bought a MIJ guitar for around that price before, so I thought why not? Also, its not like I freakin begged you everyday and spamed ur mails to ask for the $400 price for the guitar, just ONCE where i wanted to try my luck because you've been posting the guitar on soft for a long time. I have never so called "lowballed" anyone of soft for the record. Everyone are untitled to their own opinions so there's only so much I can say. I DO NOT consider myself a "lowballer". I've bought and sold a lot of stuff here and no issues whatsoever. This is the first time that I just wanted to TRY my luck to get a guitar for cheap and look where it leds to. lastking, I am SORRY and im not here saying whose right or whose wrong, fact is I already apologised to you prior to my post in this thread and i thought that would be the end of it but apparently not. In no way did I ever thought that I would offend you like that. Im really quite tired of this already and I have a life so at the end of the day if your still not happy with my apology and how you thought the way I said things, I'll be more then happy to meet you in public to talk things out.

I seriously don't get some of you people.

When a seller writes there FIRM, DON'T EVEN TRY!!

I get so sick of this thing called negotiating because it wastes both my time and the buyers time. In lastking's case HE felt that his price was perfectly reasonable that's why the price is firm. I always put on my ads that my pricing is absolutely firm. I always put down the best price I can possibly put, say 100bucks for a pedal. I don't go selling it for 150 and put negotiable and have to waste my time and smses telling people sorry too low price. I'd rather sell it straight for 100bucks than waste my time trying to find some guy who will negotiate down to maybe 110.

I hate to say this but most likely it's just a Singaporean culture thing. I've found dealing with people in the US miles better than people in Singapore. I never put my price is firm on my ads, and yet I've never had an email from an overseas buyer asking me to lower my price. It's always "Hi, I'm interested in XXX give me your paypal address and we're good to go". So quick and easy. I won't say in detail why, but again it's mainly due to the lowballers. I never reply lowballers, why bother wasting my time? Most of the time I like buyers who sms me "Hi bro your XXX still available? If it is where and when deal" No need for all the negotiating bullsh*t.

In case you forgot, you approached me first by posting a message at 1 of my advertisements asking if can cheaper, and I replied there price is FIRM as stated. Thereafter you still emailed me about it.

Don't you get it? Notice the part in bold. After you talked those shit to me, you then come telling me that those are facts. I actually stopped talking to you in email, I've got better things to do, but you put this out here so here I am. I don't care if you will eventually get it, and I don't care for an apology, but you should do some self reflection. How will you feel if someone else comes up to you and goes "I can assure you that your MIJ Ibanez Andy Timmons guitar will not sell for $1200. MIJ guitars are not selling well for sometime already. There are alot of Ibanez guitars stuck on soft and that tells you something, that there is no market for Ibanez guitars in soft. Well you can try your luck selling for $1200, but I'm willing to pay $400 for it, not a cent more, and depending on whether you have the original case."

Oh and VENGEANCE, sorry dude but I have to say it. If his guitar you were interested in was on sale for 3000sgd and you negotiate for 2800sgd, I think that's normal. Let's not get into the whole topic of firm or market or what. But from 666 to 400... That's a freaking 40% knockoff his asking price. Dude, if that isn't a lowball, I really don't know what is..

well dudelove, i totally respect what your saying but i just have a different opinion. what I feel i can get cheap i wont find it lowballing. i have expensive guitars too and I saved my ass up to buy them without negotiating. This is just how i feel:/

I so enjoy watching a person who wants nothing more than to dig past the six foot mark. I wonder if he is trying to see if Jules Verne's "Journey to the Centre of the Earth" can be replicated right here in Singapore.

And I guess some need to spend money on English lessons, rather than musical instruments, if they cannot, despite the best efforts of the schools here in Singapore, the meaning of the words 'firm' and 'price' when used together means.

You have no idea. I told you in email, after your lowball, I'll RATHER give the guitar away to a friend or some deserving nice kid with no money but with passion in guitaring than sell to YOU even if you'll offer me $666. Why? Because I'm so sick of dealing with this kind of shit.

Okay, but you need to know that you're a buyer and ultimate how you feel does not necessarily apply to the person who is selling the guitar. Negotiating from 666 to 400 IS and always be lowballing by anyones standard. I'm not even getting to the fact that he already stated a firm price, so really you might not feel that you lowballed but I'm very very sure most people would consider that lowballing. And it's never a nice thing to lowball.

And you need to freaking chill. I've had someone offer me 120 for an item I was selling at 320. I think it would have saved you alot of time and effort if you had just ignored his offer in the first place.

At the end of the day like I said everyone is untitled to their own opinions. dodgethis you're saying I need english lessons and all, fact is i understand, and i mentioned im TRYIN my luck. I mean come on, is it so hard to explain this. Im seeing things from different povs, I understand that you guys who are flaming me feel that i should respect the seller. My pov is that if i can a guitar cheap why not, why would i pay extra and let people know im noble? i'll try to negiotiate. whos to say which is right and wrong. whatever you guys have said or are saying are your opinions, just opinions, and that is perfectly fine.

hmm for me when I sell stuff and write there firm and someone ask for a lower price I just say, I'm selling it at whatever that price firm
Then sometimes I just put a price which just a bit cheaper than the original price I think $250 for a $299 product, I'm just putting it there if someone buys it ok good. if no one buys it I'm ok i still can use it I'm not broke until I have to sell it of fast. And someone called me ask for cheaper i said $230 he asked for $200 and gave me a lot of reasons why I can't sell it so high then I was just replying ya ya ya. But finally I told him sorry cannot sell you at that price.
So until today I'm still using it still working fine.
