Been a while since my last post.
Speaking of lowballing, I had one experience earlier this year. I was selling an acoustic simulator pedal for $50. This guy called me and wanted to pay the $50 in installments. The first thing that came to mind was he's a kid, or a secondary school student, or something like that. I said no to the installments, and even reduced the price to $40 so he could get it straight away, as I sensed that he really wanted it.
So we agreed on $40, and a meeting time and place. On the day itself, upon meet-up, he told me that he had only $30 in his wallet. See, if he was a student, I would let if off and say "alright, it's yours. But, don't ever give up learning guitar!" After which I'll go home and hope the kid enjoyed the pedal and that the pedal would motivate him to play better.
But the thing that struck me pretty bad was that he's not even close to what I pictured - a secondary school student, or younger; he was probably my age or older than me! And guess what, I'm 25. I'd fully expect someone older than me to be a professional working adult, not someone who agrees on $40 only to appear and then try to knock me off an extra $10! I was pissed, no doubt, but being me, I let it off.
I thought that was it - until I saw him post it up for sale about a few days to a week later. The best part is - he's selling it for $50. I PM-ed him something like "Trying to make a profit huh?" He never replied.
