The amazing guitar bargaining skills

just a tip to sellers, if you have any sales experience outside this forum, you will know that one of the golden rule of negotiation is to never show your lowest acceptable price. Quoting a slightly higher price to give a little space for negotiation is a good idea most of the time, unless your price is really insanely atttractive :)

That aside, I would like to declare that I'm against lowballing haha. Theres a big difference between reasonable offers/negotiation and lowballing. If people cant get that straight, they should not be playing music.

Just my 2cts worth.

well people can go all the way for a decent price

sold my cab last month to a guy who lowered my price because of the 'taxi fare'..
i didn't want to but out of pity i agreed to the price he wanted to. selling it at already a big loss.

carried my amp all the way down and voila
he's driving a honda crossroads

depressing no?

What did you tell him after that?

wasn't any taxi fare. he just wanted to probably crap out on a few dollars and get the feeling of a good deal i guess.

what could i say? a deal's a deal...

but the feeling of being 'cheated' just sucks!!!

got that afew times, what can i say the best people i deal with are not singaporean, so they fly here to get the solely guitar does it mean i have to pay for the plane ticket? and these people want me to write off their taxi fare from the guitar they is only one thing to blame for this GASSSS. thats the fuel that make someone call me early 3am in the morning and traveling all the way to jurong west to get a gibson.

The way I see it, he did not fulfill his end of the verbal contract, therefore, the contract can be considered as null and void. You could walked out of the deal without repercussion.

1) I would ask him for 20 individual photos for each guitar under different lightings with 9 different serial numbers to ensure no repeats with no dings no cloth swirls whatsoever to begin with.

2)Any tarnish on the hardware is a no go.

3)Any rusty strings also a no go. So if i dont get 180 different photos then i would openly call him a liar and a joke.

4)Each guitar must come with all the case candy and to ensure the pictures do not come from google the photos must be inside his camera with the date the pictures were taken when we eventually meet. ( if we do meet )

You tell him this. See what he replies.

I think no matter who you are no matter how big a transaction you're trying to make. You meet the guy, exchange a few nice words then sincerely ask for a discount the guy won't be a total ass and just say no. Most of the time they'll just say okay and give you a reasonable percentage off. like i got a modded ds-1 for 10 dollars cheaper. might seem small but it's still more than 10% off. nobody is really that heartless and cheapskate to just say no 10 bucks can buy me 3 bowls of bak chor mee.

I tend to walk away when people bargain.
An agreement is an agreement. I prefer to give my own discounts right when dealing (which I usually do). I don't like them asking for it.

But asking for discount the last minute works, most of the time. (In a meet up situation)
Saying that they only have xxx amount of cash with them, well not too much difference ($5-20) so it's still alright to me (As a seller) a few bucks would not kill anyone.
But there are some that can't stop bugging you for discount and start insulting when rejected.

It's this kind of mentality that is deterring many of my friends from this website. when a deal is made and a sum agreed upon why would you be an a-s-s and change the figure at the last minute? someone made the effort to come down all the way because an agreement was made. time, place and yes most importantly the price. be it $5 even, it's plain rude. unless the seller out of his good will offers to lower it.

please check yourself.
