Live 'n' Loaded - Episode 3 - 10 Feb 8.30pm!

they are running splits to the broadcast mixer.
But the compressed is because of the limitations of broadcast systems. There dynamic range available is very small so they have to send everything out thro the brick wall limiting that Barks was referring to.

if they don't then either you find the sound reach you all distorted (in a really bad digital clipping kinda way), or they will have a bunch of people coming and asking them to replace the TV sets because the broadcast cause the speakers to spoil.

So far I think the live N Loaded team are doing a great job of making this work with out the huge budgets you see on live shows from USA etc.

guitars were sounding great in the studio (to my ears anyway)

I beg to differ on this one. Broadcast equipments are generally tagged in higher range of the AV products spectrum. Esp bearing in mind this is Mediacorp's production and not some small time production house.

I believe the thin and "weak" guitar sound is partly due to the audio engineer who is mixing the broadcast desk. Even when I watch the show with my hi-fi system, it didn't sound any better. Tweaking audio for a live show in a venue and one for broadcast are two totally different ball game altogether. Whatever it is somehow, somewhere there is a fault with the compression/EQ. Could it be equipment? Could it be the soundman?

We would never know...

special feature for the show...

...they should def do a piece on the 'Rock for Wayne' DVD -- being a show about local music and missing that out is like doing one on grunge and forgetting to mention Nirvana; or the 60s and not having Beatles. Not only is it in honour of his late most royal highness Wayne thunder... but the DVD's got Electrico, Great Spy Experiment, Force Vomit, Humpback Oak, West Grand Central, Caracal, A Vacant Affair and the Astroninja All-Stars.

"Shot with no less than 7 or 8 cameras, the concert footage looks and sounds crisp and the opening titles are masterfully executed. Of special mention are the bonus tracks featuring footages of Wayne Seah and a sublime rendition of Ghostfather by Humpback Oak, reformed just for the tribute."

Hey everyone,

With regards to the broadcast sound, unfortunately, it's true that the audio mix goes through serious compression and that's how certain signals/frequencies are lost in the process. It is something that we cannot control on our end unless somehow, technology advances faster than the Circle Line MRT construction and tomorrow, there will be no ERP gantries in Singapore.

The PA system within the studio gives the true mix, so those who were there in the studio can attest to the sound quality. I do agree that i hate the shit ass guitar tones that comes out in the broadcast mix. It doesn't even give the drums the dynamics it deserves. Neither does it do the Fender Twin Reverb, Vox AC30, SVT Pro3 any justice.

As much as there are so much online hype and ground talks about Live 'n' Loaded, I am afraid to say that it might only be short-lived to just one season.

Truth to be told, the viewership ratings are not meeting expectations no matter how hard we try to spread the word. And without a strong following, we can't proceed to plan for a second season. :???:

kudos to Live And Loaded team..
although some of the music are not my type,
i feel that they have done a good job.
local bands can be more recognized..

Dont give up man! The live n loaded team has really put in alot of effort into promoting this show! U guys are really great to create a avenue where local music is being exposed! See u guys next week at the studio! Btw, why collection of tickets on valentines day?!

why don't they show post-hardcore bands or metalcore bands?
kind of piss me off.
i guess it's mainstream tv huh..

will ur post hardcore bands or metalcore bands improve the ratings of the show?
im sorry but im sick and tired of the bickering abt this show, why this band and tat band not playing, why the sound like this or like tat

didnt u guys read the abovementioned post by livenloaded? that this might not last more than one more season? n who is to be blamed? if we all take so much pride as to how much we dote for our precious local scene, shouldnt we all share the same amount of blame? will having bands u like or genre you like draw more viewers to the program? there are so many what ifs with regard to this program. but have you answered th biggest one? the "what if i had watched all episode and told my friends to watch it too, would live n loaded have lasted longer??" everyone is being a critic, when you all should be going out and helping to spread the word.

but everyone has forgotten the one important thng: that this show is in its infancy stage. a first step. but a BIG first step nonetheless.

you really just cant please everyone uh.
instead of putting each other down, try to think of ways to make this show last longer.

im gonna say my last piece here, with one season or 20 season, im proud to have be have been part of live n loaded. sell out or not, metalcore or hiphop, young or established, it doesnt really matter to me. because we took the step to further ourselves.

now, back to your metalcore and post-hardcore.

heh, enjoy while we can. Many many years back, it was like that..

many many years later, theres changes, but still something doesnt change much.

the locale scene we have here doesnt start with tv nor end with the end of season. Whats important, imho, is to support through the usual way it has been, all along. Spread the words, buy local, think global, continue to put in whatever we can(as long as still interested in seeing the bands/music we have here.

Imho, theres nothing much to be disappointed about when in the beginning, theres nothing to begin with. Even though the idea of local music on tv is good, we cant go against the fact of where we are, amount of people listening to music, further break it down to amount of people listening to local music.

imho

wah, seriously, no one watches what i like ah? all the show that i love got cancelled cause of low ratings. OC, Kitchen Confidential, The Class. -.-

to the guy whos pissed off about lack of post hardcore bands, AVA came last wk and played crestfallen. thats kinda heavy for a TV telecast i think. kinda shocked tbh. thought they would play their more softer songs like how about enough or mirrors. we are not the same is pretty expected though.

Help spread the word for bro LiveNLoaded bro!

Simple things we can all do here:

1) Tell your friends, colleagues, classmates about Live 'n' Loaded. Put it up on your FaceBook or MySpace or blogs. Send it out on emails! Put it as your MSN status!

2) Start online petition for a regular media platform for local music! Get it noticed!

3) Write in to Mediacorp to request for the show to carry on further than its current 10 episodes season! They have to know that we are watching and we want it! How the hell they know if we are watching it or not? They just make random calls to homes to survey rite? I remember my mum got such a phonecall before "Auntie, what channel you watching now? You prefer Ch 5 or Ch 8?". duh!

4) Next time you attend the studio show, carry the banner "We want Live N Loaded Episode 11!!" instead of "5566" or "Jay Chou" or "Hello Crystal". What's the point?!

Kudos...

Truth to be told, the viewership ratings are not meeting expectations no matter how hard we try to spread the word....

To the LiveandLoaded team, no matter what the outcome, despite the criticism, do know that this has been one heck of a milestone in Singaporean music history, and definitely a huge step in the direction, so please do not be too disheartened by the ratings. It was always going to be a challenge, but kudos to you for making something that seemed virtually impossible a reality.

RESPECT.

It could be years before we see another television showcase of Singaporean music so let's enjoy this while it lasts! :)

guess it also depends on the level of expectation set. hope the ppl on top werent expecting a few hundred thousand.

even if every SOFT member here tuned in every week thats only 18K ppl. And if you count all the other fans and occassional viewers could the show even get 50K viewers? which is pretty damn good if u ask me

if the next season (if any) were to be on Arts Central would the expectations then be same?

i don't think i know enough to offer a somewhat intellectual input here regarding the local music scene, but here are some pictures from Episode 3.

As much as there are so much online hype and ground talks about Live 'n' Loaded, I am afraid to say that it might only be short-lived to just one season.

Seriously, did any one really expect more than that? That would have been ideal but c'mon post-hardcore on primetime TV? Moshing & body-surfing? The fact that the program was allowed to air on primetime TV for 3 episodes - to me - is radical already. Almost as radical as watching Transformer on some local variety show in the 80s :)

That is why, with seven episodes left, we should just enjoy the heck out of what's left... and that the producers will give as many deserving bands out there a chance to rock out on national TV before the curtain comes down...

Allura, next!!!

There have been loads of requests for us to showcase bands like Mesa Virz, Impiety, death metal, deaf metal, post-hardcore, post-metal, postbox, all the nip tuck corners genres of music that one can associate with.

Believe me, we try to push limits with this production, probably putting our jobs on the line each week, but there's only this much that can really be showcased on national TV. We can push the limits, but not break the rules. Hope you guys can understand that. It's not because we favor certain genres of music, but we have a responsibility as a TV channel collective to cater to fellow singaporeans who at times, expect to be entertained by a dude in a wig with yellow boots and a cancerous mole instead of seeing Jon from Plain Sunset singing "Just kick your shoes off, just relax, kick back, enjoy the show".

If i had it my way, I'll like an episode with I Am David Sparkle, ATC, Lunar Node, The Observatory and B-Quartet. Or another episode of Opposition Party, Stomping Ground and Lion City Hardcore collective. But then, i'll probably have to bring a cardboard box to my office the following day and pack up my stuff. Haha. We're definitely doing a first here by having an hour of dedicated local music, it's never been done before.

I cross my fingers that another breakthru will follow, that MDA will fund another season of Live 'n' Loaded so that this platform will continue to persevere. Meanwhile, 7 more episodes to go, kick back & enjoy the show.

WE SUPPORT LOCAL, WHY SHOULDN'T YOUR FRIENDS?
Sebas, for Live 'n' Loaded
