and of course last but not the last,

carrying on their own legacy.

Re: Chewy

What can the bands themselves do in your opinion?...

Here are some things that bands have done/can do to realise their dreams:

1. Work on the music, being self-critical to a fault, so that whatever music that gets out there is the absolute best version. The public deserves nothing less.
2. Save and invest good money to record a good demo/single/EP/album and send it to as many people as possible (promoters, events organisers, venues, media, reviewers, etc.). There are many people out there who are willing to listen (even though not all will respond).
3. Design a good press kit: band bio, band photo, demo, and anything else that suggests the band takes its music seriously enough to present it in a professional manner.
4. Play as many gigs as possible, anywhere and everywhere, even if it's in a pub playing to 6 people. They won't get their adrenaline kicks, but the incessant gigging will help hone their craft, and get the music out.
5. Exercise patience. Bands that have made it have been around and 'banging their heads against walls' for years before they got anywhere. Even foreign bands have to go through this. Even the Ting Tings have been around for many years playing in different bands and in fact, almost gave up just before they made it big! Unless they're an Idol (backed by huge media corporations and labels), it's really very rare for anyone to achieve instant success.

I hope that you don't view my responses as dismissive or discouraging. I just feel that bands are more likely to achieve greater success by doing things and making things happen on their own than by counting on others. And the above are just some of the things they can do, there's plenty more!

Having said that, I do admit that there are many who have put in a lot into their music and got little in return, and I can understand it can get pretty darn frustrating. I guess luck does have a pretty huge part to play as well. At the end of the day, we just have to keep remembering a statement that seems to resonate particularly loudly in the Singaporean music scene: we just have to keep at it!

i know this is a little out of topic. but i hope you guys would check out my band RIDGE on live and loaded's website. and hopefully you would like the stuff that we are playing. and also eventually vote for us.

thanks for reading!! and sorry for the ruthless self promotion~! thanks!!

these are greats pointers! everyone read this! hehe...

I must say that this is a really great show for up & coming bands to get mass exposure .... lets hope mediacorp never ever has a P2P concept ... ever ...

Good pointers, fictionaire_gse. Good advice for me, personally, too. I've been getting too impatient to get up onto a stage and have been getting frustrated because the chance still seems far off. If music is going to be a passion but not a source of income, I should be patient and do it step by step.

Er FGL, what's P2P concept?

P2P might even be happening on LnL FGL bro....hehehhehehe.

Anyway, inserting Hip Hop is supposedly to add spectrum ,to showcase talents that is in Singapore. Wicked Aura was a breath of freash air.

But guitar oriented bands in itself already has a broad spectrum.

Eg metal , blues, jazz, industrial, ska etc.Would like to see more of the above before the season ends.

Agreed. Most rock bands on Live 'N' Loaded are pop-rock bands. Not that I don't like pop-rock, I like it but I prefer more variety on Live 'N' Loaded. I'd like to see hard rocking bands like Withered Tree, Lunarin, etc. Maybe even Ossuary! As of now I really doubt my hard rock / old-school punk band is going to make it onto Live 'N' Loaded, purely genre-wise.
