Watch Live 'n' Loaded on 27 Jan 8.30pm on 5!!

actually played on that show - twice. Vague memories now

Nice. Which band are you from? I absolutely love that show then and Gurmit was a MUCH funnier and a better host back then than he is today ironically...

How many episodes will Live N Loaded be airing btw?

It's a good point you've raised there. .

I totally agree. Would a career in music be viable in Singapore? Let's take a look at bands who have come and gone. Do these upcoming bands support those that have been popular in the past? Sad to say, not much. We tend to veer towards American bands and singers. That's where we get our influences, our favorite styles and culture. You have to admit that local pop culture IS US pop culture. How do we separate the 2? By dressing up like them? Singing songs like theirs? I don't see the point of supporting local musicians if the local musicians themselves are supporting US musicians. Why do you think event companies bring in The Ting Tings, Linkin Park, and whoever that's coming to perform at our Singapore Indoor Stadium, Fort Canning Park?? Because they are popular perhaps? Or because the general public have spoken with their dollars and sense/cents? I am thinking, how can you beat the giants that are being churned out by Hollywood year after year? Or are we at the mercy of US pop/rock/R&B groups? You can't deny it, but they are really in a class of their own, those top notch acts. How can we in SG be able to perform at that level??

I have to echo that statement..

I totally agree with you. That's why I chose to study music abroad. I have more than less, taken the route of having total responsibility of my music career. Perhaps it's more of "who you know rather than what you know"?? Behind each successful band or singer, you'd probably have someone who knows someone who knows someone that would be able to make some other one make the band a hit. We are in a sense being fed what has already been decided for us true? Cos it all comes from the top... IMHO...

To chewy & all of the other guys who commented,

I thought Chevrolet is a sponsor? But yeah, it is a costly program. That is why we should all totally support LOCAL MUSIC! Whether or not they're good, just support cos they are LOCAL!! Yes to local music!

I might want to get my band uploaded but we have no live performances under our belt yet, and we haven't completed enough originals just yet. Wonder if I can get my band uploaded anyway? In a nutshell it's a semi-religious rock band with influences from bands like Creed, Alter Bridge, Shinedown, Hinder, etc.

I watched it on TV and I really wish I was there, I skipped a reunion to watch it because I won't get to watch it there (they're all into Korean dramas, and not the kind who'd support our local English music scene). And it wasn't disappointing. Overall, worth it. I wouldn't pass a chance for my band to play on this program some day. Just wondering, after all ten episodes are over, what comes after that?

Watchmen

10 episodes, all told

Oh mannnnn...

I just saw Youtube clips of the show.. Crazy rapid zoom in-&-outs!

This is only for the camera crew of LnL: please watch some footage of how live gigs are professionally covered in other countries. I'm not a media student but I can say for sure that you don't need machine-gun fast cuts & dizzy zooms to make an event more exciting. There honestly are other better ways.

That being said, I have no probs with the rest of how the show was managed/organised/publicised etc etc.. Just some feedback to make the show better!

Support local music! Electrico, EIC, Stephanie, JJ go go go!!! Support local football! To the pits with Arsenal, Chelsea and Man U! The Lions reign supreme! Yeah! Because we are Singapore!!!

Errr.. I'm assuming since you quoted me here that you're responding to my earlier response. I must say though you kinda lost me. I thought we were discussing whether it is Mediacorp's job to provide further opportunities for Singaporean bands after the show. My point was that the onus should really be on the bands themselves, and that they should not depend on/expect Mediacorp (or anyone else) to make things happen for them.

hahah if other ppl wanna do things for you thats great, shows either one is v lucky or so damn good that ppl will fall over for u..........

if not, then surely we cannot expect ppl to push for us when we're not ready or willing......

DIY is still the best way to go...........provides one w BOTH freedom and discipline.......then eventually hopefully ppl will wanna push for you..........doesn't every hardworking startup wanna get bought over big time and reap the rewards?

I'm trying to act young la... LOL!

We should all work hard, smart and also keep doing it till something happens. That's what succeeding is about. Keep focusing, trying, writing, singing, playing, till one fine day, no matter how much you earn, how old you are, you get what you want and smile cheek to cheek knowing you've no regrets. Right ma??

What can the bands themselves do in your opinion? I mean, it's easy to tell someone to go after their dreams, but what about the fine details, the know-how? Who's going to help them or are they supposed to bang their heads against a wall till they give up??

erm

they've been given the platform already, so now its up to them on how they can sustain themselves in the local market.

anyway, itll be interesting to see how these bands will fair after all this hype is gone.
