anyone who changed their tuners on their les pauls? i am using the stock vintage ones. can't hold tune well.

any recomendations?

it depends whether your stock vintage ones are from a low end copy or a Grover of Gotoh model of the vintage green key tuner.

Stew Mac has the Grover and Gotoh vintage green key tuners for sale, abt 100usd plus shipping for a set. They have different slot dimensions though good idea to check your slot size before ordering.

Usually even the generic cheap ass ones are quite decent, did you stretch your strings properly after your strung them. Cuz if you don't they defintely will go out of tune. if they go out of tune when you do big bends it might be because your nut is not properly cut and your strings are kinking on the nut. Old stale strings also won't hold their tune also they will sound somewhat off.

Anyway anyone has p90s in their les pauls? Just bought a pair of P94s to stick into my LP. Any p90 fans out there?

ciel21: yeah i do stretch my strings after i have strung them. i think the nut and everything is okay. just the last 2 tuners get detuned very easily after large bends. very irrtating. is there anywhere to get cheap green vintage tuners sold seperately instead of being in a set of 6?

I own cheap green vintage tuners leh... Like you've said it, it really it "CHEAP!"

The gear ratio is really irritatingly too small. Tiny adjustment=>dramatic change

anyway, where can i get replacement kluson tuners?

would it be tough to replace the kluson vintage tuner to grovers?
where do i get them?

If you wanna change might as well get a set of good ones. The cheap ones will prolly screw up on you again.

Stew Mac has the Grover and Gotoh brand kulson type tuners. As for actual kluson ones im not too sure.

is it possible to get them locally?

you can try Davis, i've seen the Grover-style tuners there before, but might be from Gibson, not Gotoh

Maestro has grover if I am not wrong.

And please do your research and MEASURE measure measure. You don't wanna buy then end up have to drill extra mounting holes.

hope this ain't too off topic, jus wanna know what's the difference in string thru body and stop tail piece, function wise? i know how they look. i'm guessing the string thru body has more sustain and stop tail piece allows you to adjust the string's tension?

Stop tail does allow you to adjust the tension a bit. raise it higher to get a looser feel, too high and there not much down angle u get some problems also fret buzz and such. Experiment on how high or low you want it. Some ppl believe that screwing it tight down is best for sustain but i dunno abt that different schools of thought.

I use a Craftsman. Although it was badly made when i bought it. I love the feel of the neck, it's not too fat like an LP but no too thin like a strat. It's a really fast neck. Everything was great but pickups were bad. So i changed them. I got an Alnico 2 pro humbucker at the neck and an Evolution bridge. Sounds great. I got the LP mostly because i thought it looked cooler than a strat. btw my Alnico 2 pro was inpsired by Slash :)
