anyone knows anything about the mij epi lps with the same headstocks as gibsons? are they good?

yeah, excellent tone. very smooth and thick esp with distortion. freaking heavy, too. not as sharp as a Gibson LP Classic (ceramic pickups).

read more about MIJ Epiphones (and Orvilles) here:

http://www.orangeguitar.com/aboutorville.htm

+100 MrE

These Epiphones are great stuff. If you go to the official Epiphone website, you will know that these guitars rocks! And BTW these are not the sames as Elitist. They are even BETTER. I did some researching and these are the era where Epiphone took over Orville by Gibson and the standard was still maintained.

There is one piece in orangeguitar.com going at $1350. i thot i could get it cheaper at ebay until the piece i was eyeing for had this closing bid price:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7404426103&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT&rd=1

hmm... they use to cost around $1200 SGD. didn't know it's price has gone that high. but i think just like Orvilles, there is a demand for it since quatlity will proof itself.

aye turtlemuscle, thanks for reaffirming my knee-jerk decision to buy this MIJ :D

i chked out the ebay auction you highlighted - it says that this piece has got a nitro-lacquer finish. i wonder if mine is the same too... cos the finish feels slightly different than regular guitars' gloss finish - it is not as 'sticky' when i polish it, the cloth (and my hand) glides more smoothly across the neck and the body. or perhaps the smoothness could be due to ageing of the lacquer...

*shrugs* either way, it's a good thing

eric, i think $1350 for that piece on orangeguitar is not a bad deal (esp when u compare it to the closing price on that auction mentioned above - $900 USD without shipping), because it is in excellent condition. not easy to find MIJ Epiphones in such good state now. Maybe the one you saw for 1200 was not as well-maintained?

Hmm... i dunno abt the price os those guitars. Used to sell under 1k new now 2nd hand also need 1k plus. Was considering the orville thn i decided not too. i anticipate that i will still buy a Gibson later on so to spare me the resale which i tink will not fetch me that kinda price in singapore.

Being singaporean i know that ppl here want quality stuff, want name, dun want the guitar to have any dings scratches and shit, but still want cheap.

heh... i've emailed him. interested in the Maximus - medium output pickups that feel like high output ones, that's what one HC reviewer mentioned.

he doesnt even have names for his pickups actually, just that this one he calls the 'maximus' winding. for the rest, you have to tell him what range of output, what magnets, and what color you want.

tempting to get a pair, prob will try just one for starters... but of course will listen to some clips first :D

as Shredcow said, Jeff (Mr HighOrder) replies very fast:
(i asked abt a 8.3k Alnico 3 + 9.7k Alnico 5 "Maximus" combo)

"Not a bad combination, though 8.3k is getting to the upper limit of what
I like to wind for a neck pickup. Depending on the guitar, they can get
boomy much over 8k. A bigger issue with Les Paul types, but mahogany in
general being a darker/thicker toned wood can a challenge in this
respect unless you have a maple neck or something like that to brighten
things a bit. Just depends on the guitar and how it sounds naturally.

Shipping to Singapore will be around $15 US via Global Priority Mail.
Turnaround time is running 10 to 12 weeks right now. Let me know if I
can be of service."

bro, i don't think these MIJ Epi came to singapore, like the Orvilles, these were only sold in the Japanese market. I think those you are referring to are the Elitist model which were meant for export.

ya but i mean the value of these guitars are a bit inflated due to the rarity of it.

But its all personal perference la these things.

As you can see here we have a range of ppl who swear by their guitars, Edwards Burney Gibson Tokai. Its a perference thing. =)

I bought a Epiphone Les Paul Classic from Sweelee and felt happy since I have heard some of Les Paul tones . I bought Classic coz one of my penpals said it has the vintage sound back into Les Paul . yes I love old stuff and I happen to be fifteen

my friend claimed to have a Gibson Les Paul gift for me around Feb , my birthday . I ignored her , coz i had to have some '' honor '' for myself , and she is a bitch in my eyes .
Yep long story .

Anyway , I bought it for seven hundred dolla with backstage amp and strap
The LesPaul was eight hundred dolla on the pricetag

To my surprise , it was made in China
yea , real depressing
Im really really depressed

Can anyone tell me what is the difference between China and Korea guitars , in terms of Les Paul models , honestly and specifically ?

the Pups aint covered , im worried of dust going in , tho the tone will be brighter

I just started on guitar in Yamaha not long
I heard that Yamaha is a waste of time , feel like transferring to Shredcow
I kind of hate Sweelee now ... :?

You seem really confused... Refusing a Gibson?
okay.. nvm

China.. Yes.. Well the stickers are on the guitar when u tried it in Swee Lee.

Dust wont kill the pickups. Just wipe them clean.

China manufacturing isnt all that horrible. They are getting better.

Made in China does not equate to inferior quality. Quality wise in my opinion always depends on individual pieces of guitar. I've never played with MIC/MIK Epis for long but I believe the electronics inside are similar quality.

If you think your guitar is good, it doesn't matter which country it's made from.

jony : yea , is it off-topic to tell the long story here ?
i think it is :P
o i see , so dust does not kill

thor666 : so the quality of the appearance is different ?

i have a little insecurity with this guitar now tho
the laquer makes the body look very hologramic
does that happen to all lacquered bodies ?

o yes i love partial - hollow guits too :o

Bro, MIC n MIK is alright. i mean consider the price you are paying. you know what i mean? :)
Thor666 : okay , please forgive me

turtlemuscle : o i see
is the price i paid good or bad ? ^^''

turtle,

if you are really interested in the MIJ Epi, the best thing to do is really to get the one from orangeguitar.com.

it's win win. when you don't want it anymore, you can sell at a profit in eBay...
