Got do, sure got mistake.

How to have no mistake?

?
?
?

Don't do lor.

Personally, I am glad there is a government (ruling+opposition) running the country. I think as long as I am provided with access to water/food, protected from crime/danger, opportunities to make a living, then I am grateful already. We, the citizen can do more to make things better too. No need everything also top-down. If you know of any poor/old/disadvantaged people, reach out and help them.

The Straits Times......anyone noticed......

Anyone here stopped or cut down in reading The Straits Times recently? Have you noticed about a month ago, the content and reported articles of the election campaign seemed quite balanced, although tilting slightly in PAP's favour. I thought maybe the PAP-controlled mainstream media has "liberalized" a bit. How wrong was I! Over the last week or so, the ST's coverage of the election is getting so one-sided in favour of PAP. The worst is the Forum Page, where 95% of the "writers" wrote in to lambast and discredit the oppositions while praising PAP till no end. The chief editor must be doing a "good job" (or he/she faces the sack). It's also a sign that the PAP is getting desperate, and will control and influence the media at all costs.

Fortunately there's alternate media like the internet (and Youtube :)). And we can get all the real election scoop without much censorship and interference. But don't be surprised if PAP try to reign in on internet freedom one day, if they lose big in this election.

This is because Internet no need put up name. Not many people wish to be identified.

theres prolly reasons why the international ranking of singaland press is in the hundred and forty plus, on a global level, here

hehe, that reminds me, curbing on internet is prolly too big a market to play with. But whats possible, is this. But then, with proxy/vpn, i wonder how effective can it be

MP Cynthia Phua calls for blocking of all Internet porn sites

Dated : 12-01-2011

A call for the government to block all internet porn sites was made by MP Cynthia Phua during Parliament sitting on 12 Jan.

She asked whether the Ministry for Information, Communications and the Arts could blocks the sites and whether Internet service providers could provide free blocking services.

Replying to her question, MICA Minister Lui Tuck Yew said given the borderless nature of the Internet, this would not be possible to block every undesirable website. However, he assured that where necessary the government will block some pornographic and other undesirable sites.

The Minister pointed out that there are already 100 sites blocked as a “symbolic statement of our community’s stand on harmful an undesirable content on the Internet”.

He said that ISPs will be required to actively market their Internet filtering services to those who purchase or renew their subscriptions. This would be more beneficial than providing free filters “as parents can learn about and understand the benefits of such filtering services and exercise parental responsibility to protect their children”.

Replying to another question from Mr Zaqy Mohamad (Hong Kah GRC) Mr Lui said it was difficult to say how easy it would be to stumble upon such undesirable sites. He said a Censorship Review Committee last year found that 71 per cent of Internet users who are parents with young children are not subscribers of Internet filters.

Actually, just monitor which household uses a lot of bandwidth. Easier to spot these heavy users.

hehe, better late than never, must give chance.

At most will repent, for 5 years, before the report book come out, then everything will start again.

We must learn to forgive, but not to forget. Forgiving so that we can move on with more experiences to prevent similar bad things. If we forget, then we deserved to be played, over and over again.

Give chance? Nah. PAP will probably take back their "apology" after the election if they win. And I can bet my last dollar PAP will give themselves a pat on the back for a job "well done" despite all their so-called "honest mistakes". And in a few months time, they will increase their already obscene salaries by 30 % (as they have done with the President's pay just before the election). PAP repent? Not even in a million elitist years!

:)

A little bit of humor to ease the tension counting down to D Day

reading between the lines- they will then say they are not biased because they ended up publishing the correspondence, if they are indeed biased, that letter won't make it to print.

......they will then say they are not biased because they ended up publishing the correspondence......
I believe that's ST objective....to appear impartial. But many readers nowadays (compare to years back) are not naive. They know what they read and they know what appears biased and partisan. Or else this writer (plus there's a another one last week) wouldn't have wrote this letter to ST.

But on a whole, ST has improved over time in terms of press freedom and expression. No doubt still far from there yet, but better than 10-20 years ago when alternative voices were gagged and controlled by PAP.

WP unveils plan for Aljunied GRC.

But I betcha PAP is going to shoot it down in a few nano-seconds. Just like PAP already shot down a number of proposals, including some solid economic blueprints put up by several Opposition parties in a blink of an eye.

PAP likes to question what the Oppositions can offer or propose as alternative solutions. But when the Oppositions did just exactly that, PAP quickly dismissed it as "poison", "dangerous" or other demeaning terms without elaborating why. I doubt they even read or put some thought in it. And the most contradicting thing is....if PAP's policies and plans are so good, why are so many Singaporeans up in arms against them this election, and why is the PM apologising for all their mistakes?

The Workers' Party (WP) team will seek to increase the number of private childcare centres in suitable HDB void decks in Aljunied GRC and review the condition of playgrounds and upgrade those that need it.
The party will also dialogue with residents on where estate connectors should be built, encourage more bottom-up initiatives and study the possibility of using renewable energy sources so that savings can be used in other ways.

I would suggest taking it 1 step forward -

WP All Care Centres : A multi-generation centre that caters to the young, youth and senior.
WP Electric Company : Install solar panels on top of HDB to provide cheaper electricity to residents. Sell extra electricity back to SP.
WP Social Enterprise : A manpower company to train unemployed residents to work in the above 2 organisation.

Win-win for everyone.

No newspaper can be said to be completely impartial. Even in the Western World, the newspapers tend to favour a particular stance. The Independent and The Guardian (UK) tends to favour the centre-left, whereas The Sun & The Daily Mail (UK) is more Pro-Conservative. They are not without their own political views, hence even the "free-media" is not completely non-partisan. This is mainly influenced by whoever owns these media outlets, and his political views will affect the views of his newspapers.

watched some rally clips online... wondering why candidates need to shout at all. speak firmly & people will listen- much better than shout, then suddenly lost train of thought, paused, then continue shouting... *duh*
