Service Feedback

I must compliment Ryan for his superb sales assistance at the 2nd sale during lunchtime today. Went thru the different dimarzio pickups w me, explaining the sounds that each would give, and recommended some based on what I was looking for. Wasn't even expecting me to really buy anything, all he did was have an exchange of info/opinions, no pressure at all.

One up for you dude. =)

Re: my experience.

My adivse, just spend 5 minutes of your time and write to the parent company of your guitar make. All distributors or dealers must provide the necessary warranty service and if swee lee is denying you of that, write to the parent company.

I had a really bad experience with the service department (even though I've been shopping there 15 years now). I wrote to the parent company and got everything I deserved.

Re: my experience.

That is a splendid advice.....Any Principal has the greatest interest in upkeeping their Brand Image, their only equity..eg Gibson, Fender etc...unlike a Distributor which carries so many different brands of guitar...with sole objective of - profitability..

Yeah...go for it write to the Principal

But there are really nice people at swee lee for example sam. And about that malay guy with curly hair, I think I know who you're talking about! And I totally agree!

come on guys.. think about it, generally its sales line.

i've receive freaking bad service over in boutique in gucci too! they're high end store, but the way the look at you is like "bloody hell, dont come here and waste my time if you dont have money!"

In my heart, i always tell myself "dont wana dont than dont work lah, with that kind of freaking bad service"

but overall, nothing is prefect! try to compromise if you can even with sales personnel.

get a life peeps!

I got good service a few days ago, it was last sunday.. I was looking for sabian cleaner, this lady asked me if she could help out... i said no, I can manages... she is nice and cute as well...

went to the their bookshop (room)... been there for a few minutes... another lady assisted me and pointed a lot more books are on display... she is very helpful as well.. helped me find the book I needed...

later both a sabian cleaner... Lady 1, helped me again... very nice.. but she is new, she is still being taught what to do... coz she waited for me wyl im on queuing for the payment....

but before I had a so so service from other staff.... it really varies from person to person... mood to mood.... well I just hope next time i still stumble to the two ladies who assisted me...

sometimez it oso depends on YOURSELF...yes...sometimes if u ask nicely den theyll b veri nice..lyk my fren kalai..he works there..n i tink he is veri nice...the other ppl r oso veri kind...lyk the lady boss there..

i'm generally nice to service ppl. cos i've done service work and i know ALL about it.

so. i was nice and asked if i could try out a bass.

me: "hi can i try blah balh out"
guy: "ya sure hang on arh"

me waits 5 mins
guy fiddles with PC.

*his fren or wadever appears*

chat for 10mins, 15mins, 20mins.

i give up. and ask one indian guy.

me: repeating my "hi can i try out blahblah item"
indianguy's eye balls travel from my head to toe and backup

gives me the *you dont look like you're loaded* look.
walks me up to the guit and says

indianguy "do you noe how much it cost?"

firstly he must tink i'm retarded becos obviously i've seen the price tag. 2ndly i'm thinking he's retarded cos i didnt ask how much it was i was asking could i try it out?.

basically as a sales person you dont ask someone "do you noe how much the product you're looking for cost" it sends the msg "do you have the cash?"

i'm 22 and i look 14/15. was wearing t-shirt shorts and slippers. level of maturity does not coincide with age ppl. Truth be told the phrase do not judge a bk by its cover does not apply in our world today.

oh btw. i could well afford does guits (cept those in freezer)

My Swee Lee Experience

Well I'm really sorry but I'm not a local so perhaps my experience could be different. I've been in and out of Swee Lee (150 Sims Drive) for these past few days, first, I bought my bass guitar which is an Ibanez GSR200, I went there fully decided that it's the bass guitar that I needed. So I went to look for an available staff to assist me and he's a long-haired malay but a thad looked like a Filipino rock star(from Yano cross-bred with Slapshock), so I told him what I needed and asked if they have an available stock for the color I want (which is black) then he checked for a while and said they have it so I asked him to get it for me so I can have a try and if it's good i'll buy it, he agreed and went some place to get a new stock, when he came back, we tested it, he played a few bass lines and I played a few bass lines. Then I said I'll take it. Deal is done. No unnecessary BS, no loitering around and talking crap about how bad this and that stuff is, which I know a lot of locals do that, they are time-wasters. Unfortunately, SL sales staff don't know how to handle time-wasters, so they tend to be rude to this kind of people. Am I happy with their service? I don't care, I got what I needed that's the whole point.

For the second time, I came back to SL, coz I need to get a bass amp, the sales staff who attended to me on my bass guitar still remembers me unfortunately he's busy with another customer so I didn't even try to bother him. So I went to the amp section and found what I needed, and it didn't have a price tag, at that the time the store is filling up with people, dads with sons looking for a new guitar or drums, moms with daughters looking for trumpets or keyboards. So I stood right in front of the amp that I want to buy and looked for some chap that I can waved in to come for my needs, then there's an old guy who suddenly popped up from nowhere and told me the bass amp that I want is on sale at $120 and I am standing right in the last piece, which means the only stock left is the display/test unit. I didn't have the second thought so I took the amp, from experience, I know that display/test units are the toughest ones that's why they don't sell those things until the last item in the warehouse has been cleared, same thing is true when buying guitars, but don't follow these pattern for other things. So I got the bass amp, put it in the taxi trunk and I felt it rolled over several times back there. And I could say it's really tough. Am I happy with their service? I don't care. The whole point is I got what I needed.

The third time I went to Swee Lee was to buy a bass stand, Singapore humidity is the worse, putting up my bass in bed or couch I would expect it would be a molten candle in the next day. So I went to 150 Sims Drive. I asked for the bass stand and this time the staff has real trouble with his English. I suppose the rest of the non-locals in this forum has clues on what will happen. Right, so finally I saw the bass stand I was looking for, I grabbed it and head over to the cashier. End of the sale.

To me, Swee Lee is nothing special is just like another neighborhood store like Cheers or 7-11 because I'm not really buying some premium items such as Gibson Les Paul 30th Edition, or the Yngwie Malmsteen Marshall Rig or some over $100K musical ensemble. I just buy what I need to achieve the sound, melody and the harmony I want. End of story.

Services quality only comes first when the competition in the industry is very high. As of now, the competition in singapore has just started to pick up. With more and more music stores opening all over the places. I believe in the long run, more owners would put emphasise on customer services more. :D

Just thought I'd say something a little positive here...

I was just at the Bras Plaza branch, and I had a new staff I think, named Ren, assisting me and my friend, and I have to say that although he's generally quiet and somewhat shy (seemed like he was a bit frightened, haha), he was very patient with us. And this other guy called Dul too, very helpful and approachable even though he was kinda busy. My friend and I spent about three hours in the shop trying out various tube amps and prestige guitars on our shopping lists and Ren was around to give helpful advice and assistance and Ren, if you're reading this, thank you so much, even though we didn't decide on anything in the end (despite trying out a million $1-2k+ equipment...) :)

On a dimmer note, I was a little disappointed when we discovered that some of the guitars in the glass room (read: expensive and deserve-to-be-treated-like-idols guitars)had rusty, even broken strings, and weird set ups. I have to say that I really would have walked away with a purchase if the rusty strings didn't keep messing up my opinions of the guitars. It wasn't just the glass room guitars too, I noticed that lots of the other guitars outside had bad strings, and there was this poor guy trying out some strat next to me who was having a hard time because of the set up of the guitar.

Still, compared to yamaha, which I also went to, it was miles better in service. The fella who assisted me at yamaha gave me a $2k fernandez guitar to try on a teeny weeny 15 watt amp with 8 or 10 inch speakers I think, and still tried to tell me that compared to the other guitars in the shop "you can hear a difference in the tone". Not that I can't, but it's hard to appreciate a $2k tone through a $20 amp, ain't it? Add to the mixture rusty strings and skyscraper string heights and stir:)

And on an even smaller note, the JS special advertised going for $2800 is more than worth the buck. Cheers, everyone, bon purchase at the sales:)

I get that 2kplus-guitar-testing-on-a-15w-amp at davis too.

I should ask for discount next time, because my imagination can only help so much. :D

Nothing beats the guitar shops i've been to in Melbourne, they have dedicated soundproof rooms for you to blast away with their monster amp set ups. Also in USA too.

yeah, they do, or maybe it's just not worth the trouble i suppose. but regarding service, i havent gotten bad service there in my visits there. sooooo yeap :)

I always go to SL with a negative mindset due to all the complains here, lol...but I've never gotten bad service from them before...

Actually I think that Swee Lee provides rather good service if you go there during off peak times like say wednesday 3pm or something. Probably cuz they are bored I guess. Not that I'm complianing.
