Please stop it with the selling of tickets to perform. Just stop it.

If you have a cause, or an concept that would work.
Champion it, create an avenue for us or others to work
with you in your cause.

Quite a few years back i remember this super freakin
nice uncle, Anthony who started HeartRockSingapore
If you know or remember HeartRock you would know
what i'm talkin about.

I know we're singaporean, complaining is in our blood.
But discussing this over a forum is next rather unproductive.

and what makes u so sure that you are doing enough? who are you to say that studio 79 is not doing enough? you say that even though studio 79 organise some gigs, he is still not doing enough. My opinion is, other than your SOFT TV thing which i have never heard about only untill today, you are still not doing enough too.ive heard this saying somewhere. 'the pot calling the kettle black' ;)

seriously twistedmelody, its really nice and easy to take a swing at random pple. in fact i understand where u and studio 79 are coming from. but stop being a bigot. go ahead and take a swing at SOFT but lovelovelovelove! you! if u ever forget that all this music scene discussion, online space, gatherings, opportunities to meet others is only possible due to mr soft's contribution of this site which he set up and has to patrol so often due to cunts like u sprouting up like weeds every few minutes. maybe if u arent happy u CAN and SHOULD go design your own site and gather all the morally bigoted pple who can only see in one light and Fall Out from here. if not, just quit flapping your gums. it pisses pple off.

We currently run an event at Home Club call Electric Ballroom every Friday from 6-11pm. We feature 3 live local bands each week. We dont pay but we dont ask you to pay either.

Basically its an alternative music night so almost all genres welcome. Each set is approx 20-30 mins so shouldnt be a problem to most bands who have their shit together. We dont mind the odd cover thrown into the mix as long as its done well.

Im surprised you havent heard about it already!!!

I am a nobody.

I am using simple logic to derive my statement.

1000 bands looking for gigs to play. They are split between P2P and Studio79.

If Studio79 can organise enough gigs to satisfy 1000 bands, then there won't be anymore P2P.

The question is, are there enough Studio79 gigs?

* Pls note that "Studio79" is used as an expression for collective of non-P2P gigs.

My point is, studio 79 is quite new in organising gigs.Yes he may not have organised alot of gigs before, but im sure we all have to start somewhere. Just like you James.Dont tell me when you started out, you right away made an impact? of course you had to start out by trying and trying and just keep on trying.

We run towards the finishing line. We do not push others and make them fall over just to win the race. We just run faster if we want to win.

* I am a SOFTie, that is my personality. I never like to make any impact. Go in, get the job done, eat/sleep/play and be happy.

ok once again,im not here to create a riot.
and i cant control what people think.

if they are for my idea, good. if they are against, fine.
please people.keep to the topic.

yes all of u might say, stop talking do something.
but I am. I am starting gigs with the share cost share profit scheme.

Slowly, but surely I will make more gigs in the near future and invite bands who are interested in pay to play. yes,pay to play. you pay, you play, you get share of revenue.

All I ask is that you give my idea a chance. Do it for the music. Not for the money, please.

so please stop arguing already.

Suggestion to soft:

maybe you can have like bands wanted section specially for gigs, and split them to sell tickets gig/ pay to play gigs/ paid gigs/ free gigs.

we have to run towards the finish line right? we have to just keep running and running right? isnt that the same as trying. Dont push others over right? but you were the one who started this by saying studio 79 is not doing enough.

Studio+79

Where do you recruit bands for your gigs? Are any of the bands not on SOFT?

but you were the one who started this by saying studio 79 is not doing enough.

That is right! You want more non-P2P gigs, you simply have to organise more. You don't bash P2P gigs.

Things and situations exist for a reason. Whining about it in an online forum has guaranteed zero impact.

I kinda disagree with people fingerpointing James/Soft.

Soft.com.sg is the best place to source for latest Info on gigs/concerts, you can even find jamming kakis and bands to play for your shows. Without soft forum, it will be very hard for us to do work.

And local music is not about gigging alone. Its more of interaction and get your recorded music out. Sell your EPs. etc.

Even if you have the idea or suggestion, you can't trash the other methods to stop. Its just not MANLY enough or PROFESSIONAL enough.

Im sure Soft.com.sg doesnt mean to put you guys down, he merely stated that to stop P2P. you guys should do more shows under your method to prove P2P wrong, and get people to trust in you. :)

Haven't you noticed? No one brought him down until he started bringing other concert organizers down.
If u wanna dish it out, u better be prepared to take it.

ok but im not pointing fingers at James or Soft.
Heck I come here all the time to read up on stuff.

Yes James, some bands are not from SOFT, some are.

Initially, I just offered an alternative idea for organizing a gig.thats all.
And I feel bands deserve something from your gigs, at least a little share of the profit.

errr...wat's wrong with hiring a chef to cook ur food (or go eat at restaurants)?
some ppl like the cooking process, some just want to hav nice food but lazy to cook.
n u can't force everyone to cook.

studio 79, i like ur attitude towards diy gigs. keep up the effort n spirit. but p2p gigs hav their own niche too. it's too subjective to say wat's right n wat's wrong.

p/s: pls dun point fingers at soft. take a step back n REALLY think bout wat james has contributed to local scene n local musicians!

Quality bands giving out quality shows on a regular basis deserves profits.

Actually thats what a lot of bands do, when they wise up.
They buy their own equipment, approach bars and restaurants
Work hard to be a resident band there.

Indie gigs are most of the time are just one-offs,
and the band-list always changes. My advice is don't
so caught up with the profits. People who exploit young
bands also don't exploit them for a living.

if what you're doing is good, naturally we will feel it.
and it'll turn into something meaningful. Sometimes
when you're too passionate about something, it becomes
counter productive. Especially over a forum.

In order to know if your method is sustainable, we have to know how many gigs you have organised.

If I win 1 Toto, it doesn't mean I can make a living by wining Toto.

You realise the 'gigs' I organised are all paid for by me? I think that is even 'cooler' than asking the bands/musicians to share the cost. You know how I do it? I work hard everyday to make some income, minus all my expenses, put the extra money to execute these ideas I have.

I have 1 pair of shoes, my last pair was 7 years old. Most of my t-shirts are free (sports events, music events). 1 pair of Lee jeans + 2 pair of pants.

I am not putting you down but I want you to understand how we can achieve what we want. There will be a lot of sacrifice but DON'T make others sacrifice. Sacrifice to our own limitation.

i think this is enough to make softies understand and appreciate our mod. no one should be slamming him. soft has done a lot for me:)
