DIY is the way to go.
A bit about politics in the scene.
I dont like the idea that the 'known' bands always dont have to pay. Or 'known' bands get paid to play. IMHO, not all 'known' bands have good music/songs. So sad but true, these bands have strong connections and network, that's why they made it through the scene..made it through the big gigs and get featured.
You know anybody, can play overseas, Europe, US or wherever. Even if your band is not good, you can even play overseas. Im serious about it. Just make friends online, ask for help, make deals and off you go. We still have a lot to go. Success is about making the whole world know about you and have strong music sales. Not just fame here in the local scene and brag about your overseas experiences.
If we showcase these kind of bands as our top bands in Singapore, it will be a shame. Be it underground or mainstream, tourists/foreigners come and say, is this the best we've got?
Sometimes I think, we are the reasons why the local scene, local bands never succeed or get recognised internationally or get identified by big labels like roadrunner
. Dont blame it on lack of sponsorship or the government. I think we are the reasons not the govt or anything else. If we are realli interesting enuf to get signed with big international labels or hav high music sales on itunes, milions of viewers on youtube, govt will definitely support u rite? well thats wat i tink.
I hope organisers can not only organise but judge fairly who are the good bands. Scout for really talented bands. Before they can make it big there, they need your support to make it big here first. So look around. Not those 'known' bands. If they are 'known' and they are reali reali good, hey thats fine.
If you're big and you're realli good, pls be humble. Let your ego down. Share and care and the local scene will be very supportive of each other.
Bands and organisers, please dont spoil the local scene with your politics. If you know what I mean. If you dont get it, nvrmind..
Just my opinion.
