Please stop it with the selling of tickets to perform. Just stop it.

Hey jaarvis. We will try to accomodate metal/hardcore/gruesome bands sometime around next year.

This upcoming ones is not suitable to have metal or hard music. Sorry bout that, As much as i love metal.hardcore etc , i cant schedule that genre for this one.

Hope you understand, but still do send in your demos/presskits to whatlahproject at hotmail dot com

ok this is pissing me off already.

instead of making the new band that nobody wants to watch sell tickets,
just make them pay for their slot.

easy rite? like i said, alternative solution

Instead of them selling 20 tickets and you get allllllllll the money for your HARD WORK, make them pay, share the rent with you,the organiser.if you dont want to contribute financially, then fine just make the bands pay. you can take a share of the revenue also since you did most of the work.

the revenue can be shared, if you want a big piece go ahead take more since ur organised it.

all im saying is that give the bands a share of the pie. at least give them some money. like u said, no bands no gigs. no organiser no gigs.

so please use your freaking heads ok business minded youth of singapore?

and dont make gigs with ALLLLL new bands that is ridiculous.

have a mix of new bands and bands that are known already or popular.

mix mix mixmi mix mixmixmixmximximixmixmimximximixmix

of course if 1 gig, all new bands, who the hell would want to watch. coz they know nothing about the bands.

the new bands that i look for,i require them to have at least 3 original songs. and songs on myspace at least people can check them out.

Hi,

Any metal bands like death, black, classic or all the 'core' bands who is interested to perform do send your demo/ presskit to uncle.bob@hotmail.com

We are having NON-P2P show this coming Nov and Dec. 2 gigs.

Thanks
MaeL

P.S this coming 1 Oct, part of 'Tomorrow's Friday' who is interested contact me.
Our deal is this, we will help promote using our database, design poster/flyers, online/ physical marketing but...
Bands pay for the rental, less than $50 per band. Bands shares the profit.
6 bands. 6-10pm. 4 hours.
We dont want any share of the profit, support the local scene.

have an audition of new bands wanting to perform. Handpick the best few followed by several established bands. Promote the show well and i think the profits will come in and each band can be given a token of appreciation a.k.a payment. Just a suggestion on how to make the gigs in sg more entertaining than to see alot of crappy bands. In a way this will also help the crappy bands to work harder and become better thus making singapore bands have quality. In return, this will help the local scene am i right?

i might be wrong, i dun think establish band will wanna do p2p. u go ask electrico if they want to p2p for a gig.

I have been guilty of creating such a thread in the past, and over the years we've all seen them.

Your passion and sense of injustice is a great thing, but it ultimately doesn't accomplish anything. Talk is cheap. Try putting your money where your mouth is- I did, and I lost everything. (I haven't given up though, and intend to try again... but that's another story)

Go out and make a difference, and come back and tell people about it! Earn the respect and be the change you want to see.

Well said Visa, :P

I'm so excited for F1 in Singapore. F1 Rocks will be showcased live on Tv worldwide. Taufik will be singing our National Anthem and will be showcased live on Tv worldwide too. CHEERS FOR THE SINGAPORE MUSIC! Who knows our local acts performing, will be on air too to 110 millions fans around the world.

when i say established bands, I dont mean bands that you only see on tv or radio, the likes of electrico, GSE, and the rest of the well known bands with a major label.

im referring to bands that have been around for very long. before selling tickets came into play.

i think i should have been more specific, coz i guess i was just focusing on the punkrock/ hardcore genres.

the bands who are not in it for anything else, just to play music. people who find it as a form of release from everyday life. the bands who dont care whether their myspace plays reach 100 or not.

not for recognition, the little fame there is, attention and whatnot.

yes talk is cheap.but i just have to reply to some users. just to get my point across.

and those bands that been around for a long time will p2p? ah or even share cost? name me one that will.

ok uve got me there.

what i intended was, if lets say ive got 9 bands for 5 hours.but i call lets say 3 "known bands" to headline the gig. So i'll make the other 6 bands share with me, and revenue share between us.

the 3 bands that didnt pay wont get a cut, since they didnt contribute financially.

BUT if there is profit, I will give the paying bands their share, and any extras I will give to the 3 bands.

before p2p came in, bands shared etc2.
after that, organisers just call bands for free.organisers bare cost.

the focus here is on gigs,
not concerts.
so pls keep to the topic.
alternative solution to selling tickets.

DIY is the way to go.

A bit about politics in the scene.

I dont like the idea that the 'known' bands always dont have to pay. Or 'known' bands get paid to play. IMHO, not all 'known' bands have good music/songs. So sad but true, these bands have strong connections and network, that's why they made it through the scene..made it through the big gigs and get featured.

You know anybody, can play overseas, Europe, US or wherever. Even if your band is not good, you can even play overseas. Im serious about it. Just make friends online, ask for help, make deals and off you go. We still have a lot to go. Success is about making the whole world know about you and have strong music sales. Not just fame here in the local scene and brag about your overseas experiences.

If we showcase these kind of bands as our top bands in Singapore, it will be a shame. Be it underground or mainstream, tourists/foreigners come and say, is this the best we've got?

Sometimes I think, we are the reasons why the local scene, local bands never succeed or get recognised internationally or get identified by big labels like roadrunner :). Dont blame it on lack of sponsorship or the government. I think we are the reasons not the govt or anything else. If we are realli interesting enuf to get signed with big international labels or hav high music sales on itunes, milions of viewers on youtube, govt will definitely support u rite? well thats wat i tink.

I hope organisers can not only organise but judge fairly who are the good bands. Scout for really talented bands. Before they can make it big there, they need your support to make it big here first. So look around. Not those 'known' bands. If they are 'known' and they are reali reali good, hey thats fine.

If you're big and you're realli good, pls be humble. Let your ego down. Share and care and the local scene will be very supportive of each other.

Bands and organisers, please dont spoil the local scene with your politics. If you know what I mean. If you dont get it, nvrmind..

Just my opinion.

play overseas gig sounds easy enuff. so why are bands not doing it and a very very small handful of bands doing it?

if SG scene is small and un-supportive with p2p gigs and bad gig organisers, why still linger and dragging locally here whining. i say go overseas, go online, contact the hell out of everyone, save some $ and do it! Let the whole world know about you! Roadrunner not going to give a shit about u if u send them 1 cdr with the most mindblowing metal riffs and bad ass drumming that recorded live in some jam studio. it will end up in the bin when it arrive on their table. they got thousands of hopefuls every month to screen begging for an opportunity. what makes you special?

if folks think u are bad or some think u are good. but do you have the confident to risk it. Play in a crowd that dun give a shit about u or your music and won them over in 1hr? or play in a venue where only 3 ppl turn up and try to win the 3 ppl and still play like there are 3000 ppl?

will the band spend on cd production? good quality demo? EP? contacting record labels? emailing all the distributors, traders, local and overseas relentlessly? postage? etc...

and band themselves complain about poor backline support, the marshall amp lousy, combo amps on gigs, have u even invested on good gear? are u willing to bring your gear to the venue? will you spend more $ to rent good backline. i know musicians that will bring their 4x10 cab + head + their gears to a gig coz he wants to ensure the folks will hear good stuff.

its all about a change of mindset. if bands expect to be sponsored, expect to be treated like rockstars or respect, expected to get paid for gigs. Do it. when organizers approach you say we charge $1k per gig. when organizers ask u to p2p tell them they should p2p you and ask for a proposal. LOL.

when musician is not hungry enough, when they got a full time job fueling hobbies, when they got their parents to still support them and dun need to worry abt bills it will be different than a starving hungry musicians.

wheres the hunger? wheres the passion? go overseas and play more gig. the more the merrier. export! black metal is norway biggest cultural export! and now malaysia wanna claim chilli crab.what now? Do it! i wanna see local sg band myspace with gig dates and venues spanning the globe!

what i see is folks whining abt p2p gigs and gig organizers whinning abt paying for everything out of their own pocket and loosing money and being broke coz of poor attendance. Poor attendance coz <insert wisecrack comments>

no one want to take risk, all wanna involve in a risk free business but everyone wanna be rockstar.
