aiyah it's both a blessing and curse, living ur life with slipped disc can be a pain in the ass . literally.

yea i know junxiong

Does anyone know anybody who plays the piano in mdc? Are the auditions for piano hard? Is it really true that those already serving in a unit is harder to get into mdc cos I am.

Roland technician press button only la.

It's true, technicians have a physically tougher job in MDC than the musicians.

And your boss is an asshole, but so is mine.

Let's just say i don't want your job, and i don't think you want mine. The Brunei and Rockhampton preparation got alot of tau gei to read. (and got one Suria Diva we have to work with, you likes???)

To ry@n11, there are two keyboard positions in MDC. One is in the String Ensemble, which is more classical, and one is in the Combo Band.

I mentioned the audition requirements in my earlier post, roughly.

Generally if you show you know your instrument well, can read, can accompany, you'll pass, whether you can get in is a different story.

Of course this makes it sound easy, but most of the people who come in don't even have the basics, so you should really practice hard before you audition. If you don't make it it doesn't matter because it just means you're not familiar enough with your basics.

when i was in bmt i called up the mdc and enquired about vacancies, since i can play the piano and guitar, and possess sound engineering skills. my plan was to slack through ns and try to spend as much time on music/sound engineering as possible.

pretty much everybody around me made fun of mdc for being a "faggot unit", but all i knew was that i wanted to do what i love. unfortunately, one of the main questions the interviewer asked me was what my pes status was, and i'm pes A. i think that was the reason i never did get in :(

anyway, for anybody hoping to get in based on interest/passion, i would highly recommend it. my friends who got in seemed to enjoy their time in there, which is like having an ns experienc which is actually enjoyable/educational.

If you're a tuba player you're better off auditioning for SAF Military Band, which is a totally different company from MDC.

Thinking of transfering out of my unit.

I do nothing everyday anyway. What a waste of their resource as well as mine.

mdc auditions

Hi. I'm having auditions on this sat. I'm auditioning for piano. Anyone got any advice for me? What are the common pieces that I shiuld be able to play to meet their requirements?

Hm I'm self taught. Pes A. And can't sight read.

The chances are very low? Been playing for 6-7 years, can play a few genres.

If anyone is considering to audition for MDC, you really should be an advance musician, not just average. There are only so few spots available and every year, hundreds of people (who are advanced musicians) will try to get in.

Other than artistes and musicians, you can apply for production position too. Like technical production crew. If you have education/experience in audio/lights/video production, you can try to apply too.

* Royston Tan was honing his camera work in MDC during his NS too!

Hi, does anyboby know after the auditions, how do u know if u're successful or not if u're already serving in unit?
Will they call u?

aiyo. i'll say just serve your two years in NS fighting unit life. it's more fun that way. whee~!!

doubt they can call u out of unit. MDC is under a department... thnk is something Affairs... if u're in Army, Navy, Air Force, etc u can't cross over unless its for special reasons.

They managed to do taht to bar my fren from going pilot school

hi i'm new here. Just asking, I'm Pes C1L2 and I'm thinking of joining the MDC after my BMT (which begins on 28th Jan) but I've no idea wot are the procedures and the audition requirements. I'm a pianist, and have performed at various locations such as the Victoria Concert Hall and the Esplanade with the Singapore Symphonia Company and the SSCC. Also, I performed with an orchestra at the NAFA theatre. Apart from experience, I hold an ATCL and LTCL in classical music (piano) and have been guided in composition by Dr Edwards of Yong Siew Toh and wrote commissioned works for various groups in Singapore such as the Harp Society.

Sadly, I'm not trained (I mean well-trained) in jazz and I've no idea wot groups in MDC can I join and how are the auditions like. Do i need to prepare a repertoire for audition? Can anyone guide me???
