Jack Neo, our local comedian/director was from MDC too. he has a wife and a few kids.

its actually quite a misfortune many here fail to understand the meaning of nsf, as well as certain key words. the uncle at my nearby kopitiam has a wife too... so?

on the contrary, for someone who has a name like madmonkeykungfu, is actually the most civilised, rational, and least animalized... one who deserves some respect. i'm glad there's someone who understands english.

Whats gotten into you Stillwater? Whats up with the high and mighty attitude? Your previous posts were not like that, why only now?

dun bother, let's leave him to his own deluded little world. There's only so much we can do to help him.

I get what you mean, but a rank is a recognition of service.

great thread! been reading this thread over and over again! :D
i have some qns hope u guys can help! thanks in advance! :D

if interested to sign on mdc, b4 bmt can go for audition? the only place in army i am int in is mdc.
i play fingerstyle guitar music (chet atkins, Muriel Anderson dat type of music). I have never ventured into jazz or blues or combo music, if i am int to get in, izzit i must start venturing into those areas to have a chance to get in?

during the audition, do the interviewers ask u to play some pieces, or izzit they want u to play only things they set to test sight read ability? blues scales and jazz scales a necessity?

thanks in advance to everybody!!! :)

To be frank with you qazokm, your genre you "specialise" in is not what MDC wants. Jazz, blues and pop, even rock, guitar playing is a requirement.

But you will still have a chance I'm sure. If MDC needs a guitarist, and you're a fine fingerstyle player, perhaps you'll still get in. You can always learn to play the other styles, easier if you have a good foundation.

Yes, they will ask you to play pieces. Maybe 1 of yours and 2 of theirs. Yes, you must sight read.

thanks shredcow! :D
maybe i'll start venturing into other areas. do they ask u to play their piece on the spot? i m ok wif sightreading, but wil b slow if they come out wif some super jazzy chord wif lots of inversions dat type of stuffs, as hf nv done those b4. during ur audition last time wt did they ask u to play? mind sharing wif us wt did u play? =D

Yeap, you have to play their piece on the spot. It really depends on what song you got... :) Some are easy, some kill.

I just had to play... what was that... i can't rememeber the jazz piece, but it was only rhythm stuff, had to sight read the rhythm notation. Then played the melody line of La Bamba. 8) I had it easyyyyyyyy....

I have qns. I heard they do want emcees/hosts. Is this true? What are the chances of its availability? Do they need any recommendation or anything?

THANKS

Yeap, MDC does take in Emcees/Hosts. If you can get some sort of referral/recommendations from a renowned person/company, it will help. You will have to go for audition still and well, you don't need a lot of emcees/hosts lah, so there must be vacencies.

all those assumptions about MDC are ridiculous.
All these rumours that most of the people are homosexual, physically unfit are nothing but rumours without solid proof.
First and foremost, yes, there are gay people in MDC HOWEVER, this is a very small minority and we're like talking about less then 5 people out like 60?

i asked a friend currently in MDC whether this was true. his reply? bullshit, at least 20-30,and thats just those out in the open about it.

disproved.

i hope kennchu (the thread starter) can read through this thread and pick up what is applicable to him. keep your focus in music and take every oppountity to indulge in it.

I think... THINK., that turbochicken went thru that?

sheesh, erm, yea i did. for the band, choir and "artiste".

not exactly a good experience. some soft looking soft speaking guys, 3 in fact, sat and stood at the piano with me standing infront of them. i had to sing a song (along with an instrument, my choice). then they told me to face my back toward them and sing out the middle note of whatever chord they struck. that's it.

my sense of harmony was bad so i flunked. they told me with my voice i should try out for the "artiste".

artiste was about dancing singing and acting, and you had to be competent in any 2 of the 3. i passed the singing. fullstop.

the band was out on a roadshow or something when i went in for audition, in '99. everyone was out, the person left to conduct the audition was some pot bellied bloke.

drumkit was incomplete. no hats, no crash. one ride, one kick, one tenor drum, one snare. i was asked to play standard stuff like bossa, rumba, chachacha, rock, 6/8 groove, funk etc. i can read, but he didn't test me.

toward the end, he asked my pes status. i said B, due to G6PD.
they said "oh", and never replied.

get ready for the denials. 8)

haha... deny it? If what unsane's friend says its true, so be it. In my case, I joined to play music, who cares about the other people there?

Oh point to note... Unsane, is it gay gay, or gay as in gentle? :D
