MDC? music and dance company

hi guys.

Sorry i know this thread have been going on for so long.
But im enlisting next month, and i really wanna try out for the artiste section.
May i ask if the "pull strings" method is really important...

Im currently C9L2. And i have just started taking up dance lessons for a few months, but im more proficient in singing. what are the chances...

Thanks :)

First of all, congrats on C9L2. Your army life will be good, whether in MDC or not.

Pulling strings can help to a certain extent, but of course you'd still have to impress them at the auditions. Just give it a shot, nothing to lose. The competition is stiff though, lots of guys fighting to get in.

hey sorry for bumping this thread. I'm enlisting at the end of this month, and im considering to audition for MDC as a guitarist. I do not have any formal theory knowledge, only some mere basic applied theory (knowing some minor/maj scale shapes and how chords are formed), and im not able to sight read. i usually play mostly rock, instrumental and some blues. What will be expected of me at the auditions, and what are my chances of entry, judging from my knowledge(or lack of) of theory as mentioned before. Im pes A btw(not a very good thing LOL)
ps: how do i change profile pic?

Sorry to say this, but you don't have much of a chance, more so because of your PES status rather than your technical proficiency in the instrument to begin with. Central Posting (CPC) will not assign personnel who are combat-fit to MDC due to shortage of manpower in combat-fit vocations.

Haha yup you got that right but I only do that to people I know....hehe.

Yup chiong sua is actually quite fun, especially if you'r out of shape before entering army - it gives you ample opportunity to trim that flab and look good. I've seen many OCS buddies coming out a much fitter and better man after all that training although they have little time for anything else, as well as a 15 year reservice cycle.

Another perk for MDC personnel who have already ORD-ed is if you don't make it into their NSmen list for whatever reason you go straight into MINDEF reserves. (read- no reservice obligations) To me, that counts towards a big difference for future future employment prospects as it puts you on par with these FTs(as our country so affectionately labels them as) who have no NS obligations too.

im perfectly fine with chiong sua, but if i have the chance to be able to practice and improve my instrument (on a regular basis) during these 2 years i would much rather do so, still thanks for the input guys! Maybe i'll still audition for it.

Sorry for necro, but I hope this is better than creating a new thread when there's already one.

I'm currently in an admin position and I seriously have way too much time. I'm thinking of auditioning for MDC (as a bassist) but I'd like to know beforehand, what is daily life like in the company? Specifically combo band, since I think that's where I'd be placed.

joining MDC is a good way to spend your 2 years
in the army; besides you get to book out daily and
can further your studies.

plan well before you enlist, don't end up going to
the fields, carry rifles and charge up the hills …

Well, I've already enlisted and am in an office position. I'm currently spending my free time studying programming. What I'm concerned about is whether I'll still have time for that if I join the combo band.

Can any current/former MDC (combo band) members share their experience and advice?

i thought that the SAF sub con the MDC to Young music and dance school? so now yang yin is in jail closed down...

Gurmit Singh, Najip Ali, Chua En Lai, Lin Jun Jie, Sheik Haikel and Jack Neo were all from MDC.. Singapore Idol Sezairi Sezali was posted there too! :)
