MDC? music and dance company

do i need to finish my BMT? wot if i OOT?

you mean OOC - Out of Course.

certainly you have to finish your BMT. however there are instances where personnel go OOC for various reasons - although for PES C BMT this should be highly unlikely. In such instances, in my past experience the personnel hang around the BMT company till they are either sent for recourse or posted to another unit. Sometimes, the OOC trainee might end up being posted to be the permanent company clerk.

but there really is no telling what can happen, these are decisions that are made at a higher level involving mysterious processes that we do not know.

if you want a more direct answer, you are strongly advised to ring up the MDC number to speak to someone there as opposed to posting questions on a forum. they are nice people, they will entertain your call.

You can forget about the MDC if you do not at least have grade 5 theory knowledge, you do not need the paper qualification, you just need to convince them that you have that knowledge.

At least that's what my piano teacher told me.

As an ex MDC NSF bassist (2000-2002), I can safely say you need to be downgraded to pes C first and be able to sightread/read chord charts.

Even if you pass the audition, you may not get in if you are not downgraded or there is no vacancy for such a position. Hence, you need a stroke of luck in that dept. Helps if you know someone in the dept you wish to audition for who can advise you on the vacancies available.

I auditioned right after BMT as a pes A and was accepted in-principle but had to get a downgrade first. Only after downgrading was I quickly transferred to MDC.

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

Piece of advice. If you're PES A, just get into a combat unit and vocation (eg. Infantry Rifleman, SISPEC, etc) and you will be surprised when your 2 years are up. Cos that's how fast time flies. No doubt that every single person in the military has a part to play, be it you're a storeman, a driver, a medic, a snare drum player in SAF MDC or a military police man. But, with all due respect to all vocations, if you're in a so-called "slack" job you will find that 2 years seems to take forever.

Trust me, i spent one year "chiong-ing" and another year slacking. No prizes for guessing which year seemed to end faster. All the best for your BMT bro.

^ disagree with that , i spent 1 year in BMT/SISPEC/Signals and 1 year in MDC.

MDC was freakin sweet. Got to travel to rockhampton, australia and had one of the best times of my life there.

Marcus old lah. It's OOT now because they call it BMT

ANYWAY BACK TOPIC

The points regarding PES status are valid but rather moot since the enquirer has already clarified that he is C1L2. SO! The best option is still to call MDC up.

But then by now its too late cos they have already knocked off and gone home for CNY! So... better write down that MDC number so you can call them after you enlist!

THANKS LOADS! Last 3 questions: Do I voice out that I wanna join MDC during my first 2 weeks of BMT?

Are the auditions during BMT or something? Would I be posted to a vocation and then posted to MDC (if i'm in) or directly posted to MDC?

After ORD, wot would my vocation be???

THANKS!

Anw I have an A(mus) diploma in theory so no worries. I'm planning to try for the composer-arranger-classical pianist spot :S Seems VERY bleak tho :(

Am an MDC alumni. Guitarist/Arranger. No audition. was headhunted by Raf himself.

Some of your so-called gay (hate that term) are some of my closest friends. Wonderful and talented bunch of people. And I'm as straight as they come.

James, my man, how many departments in MDC now? It used to be Studio A. B and Productions only, right?

Proud to be an MDC musician. I'd take playing guitar everyday than carrying rifle anytime; and I'm SAFINCOS-trained myself. Pes Boff you are an advance musician, they'd take you in. You'd see and meet fantastic musicians there. Most of whom go on to bigger things in the music industry after their MDC stint.

for my case, i'm PES B and auditioned once after BMT, didn't get in. sian. then got posted to medic course, got called back to audition again. didn't make it. again. i think the sole reason i didn't manage to get posted to MDC was my PES status. IMO the auditions were rather simple and i think i gave a good account of my abilities (i auditioned as a drummer btw).
having the connections didn't really make the difference either. I tried to get MAJ TAY to write in for me to get posted to MDC. obviously it was a long-shot due to my PES status but they managed to get one of my medic coursemates, Ike See (PES B also btw) posted to MDC cause they really needed a principle violinist.

now that i'm a medic and deal with medical boards and stuff, even your C1L2 won't guarantee you a place in MDC as there are other COMBAT vocations that your PES is eligible for deployment. the safest bet is to further downgrade to C9L2 (problems involving your ankles and or legs in general.)

not getting into MDC isn't the end of the world i suppose. i mean, it would be great to spend 2 years of serving your nation doing something you love. but, now that i'm a medic, i've learnt a lot of life-saving skills and other medical knowledge. plus, i'm fortunate to get a stay-out posting even as a COMBAT medic.

my 2 cents

Ike's a little bit different. He's quite famous and not everyone who wants to get in has gone to Curtis. Ordinary people like the rest of us have to audition and downgrade. Don't underestimate the importance of downgrading.

I just realised you're adam shah. You scored very very high. I was on the panel. We did pass you but we also passed 2 other drummers with pes C and only one of them got in.
