Cool as heck! In fact, I only heard about the Montreux series from your poisonous blog!
I didn't have the chance to testdrive the Knebworth as I think Mike had sold them all off. I did have the chance to test the Wampler Hot-Wired, Montreux Paradise Drive and of course the Screamin' Lady.
The Hot-Wired (HW) gives a nice full-bodied distortion and the O/D was warm. Playing some chords on the O/D mode gave a nice 60's rock feel. I enjoyed chugging along because it wasn't trebly, so could just chug on. The distortion mode though, was fabulous and meaty. Shiokadoo. I felt the distortion although feeling really good and "analog-ish", I was afraid it was too similar to my GT-500.
The Paradise Drive had a slightly more clear-cutting distortion, which Mike referred to as somewhat modern J-Rock style. Initial impression was one of "wow, this sounds damn good and bitey!", but as I play more classic rock and blues-rock, I asked Mike for something more suitable. Now that I think about it, I've not heard a clearer, sharper distortion without it being shrill. Hmm.
And out came the Screamin' Lady (SL). Within a minute, this was it! The sound I was hunting for, the "rounded" overdrive sound that can be played clearly with chords, 2 note chords and beefy power chord rhythms. With the option of a pre-gain, it made for a really powerful O/D. When I came home, I combined the SL with my amp's overdrive and lo! An interesting high gain distortion! Still lots to experiment with, especially since the SL has a 3-way toggle switch which I still am not too sure what it does. Doesn't come with a manual and the website has minimum explanation, but nothing a bit of fiddling around wouldn't solve. All in, I'm glad I picked the SL. It suits what I'm playing and is THE sound in my head. Watch out for lots of pedals being sold in the classifieds soon! Haha!
Apologies for the long-winded and potentially inaccurate review. Make of it what you will!
Cheers!
