Hello all,

on the tip-off by Subversion's post in his blog, I went down to Davis and bought this!

Ok, I didn't give it much of a test drive at the shop because I didn't expect too much from the guitar. Hey, it is 195 bucks afterall! What I did though, was to walk straight to SV to see if anything could be done to enhance it. As fate would have it, Mike who usually isn't at the Peninsula branch in the morning, was there! So, we played around with the guitar a bit and decided to give it a pair of Tesla P90 pups, an orange drop, new strings and a proper setup.

I've not had much time with it yet, but so far, the guitar sounds good and I especially love the distortion tone. Something really different from the usual single coils and humbuckers. The only gripe I have with it thus far is that the tuners are somewhat loose, i.e, expect to tune it quite often. Switches and knobs work fine and feels ok, build quality seems fine and I really like the colour.

I suppose if one isn't picky about the original pickups, it is a decent guitar to begin playing around with. However, I would recommend it getting it set up properly first. Different people might have different expectations of this guitar, but if you look at it as a basic starter guitar that look and sound different from the other usual strats and lps copies at this price bracket, I think its definitely worth a try. Once I get more time with it, albeit with non-original pickups, I will try to give as accurate a review as possible.

Oh yes, I also picked up this beauty yesterday:

Hi man, when I was there last week, they only had this red colour. To be honest, the stock pickups were rather flat. If you want it to sound better, fit in the Tesla P90s. Waaaaay better..! :)

the pickups in the ARIA models aren't fantastic, just acceptable grade for the price. thinking of of going the TESLA way with my XL Standard...
