Boutique Gear: When did you fall for them?

Well, the comments on the Morning Dew isn't that its drastic... it seems like it does the inbetween freqs your amp doesn't handle, its really a minor tweaker.

But you'll never know till you try it no?

I wish I had a 2 amp setup, one for cleans, one for dirt.

Hey guys, i'm pretty much a tone noob and i wanna know; how much does the amp affect your tone when you're using mainstream and boutique effects? (lets say ur amp's not faulty or emits any buzz)

Is it more recommended to use an amp with a big speaker and good clean channel? Guess you would get this sort of amp unless u want to boost the amp's OD channel, then the amps OD must be pretty good too rite?

Boutique and mainstream doesn't make any difference apart from collectability and bragging rights. They it's like comparing a table from ikea and a hand made table by my dad. They both are tables, just with different looks, measurements, etc. Which you prefer is up to individuals.

So.

Boutique or not is not the issue. The issue is what do you want out of the effect? If everything you want you can get out of a mainstream pedal, a boutique one isn't going to do any better.

Your amp is about 70% of the tone I reckon. It's obscenely hilarious to buy a $400 overdrive to put in front of a $200 amp.

It is recommended you use an amp with the sound suitable for what you like. Because it's also hilarious to buy a $5000 100W High gain monster with 8 12" speakers to play for a wedding. Choose your amp according to your application. If you want an amp that is the jack of all trades but master of none, get a good modelling one.

Yay cool, points.

Pedal soundclip secret of the boutiquers: Put ANY overdrive pedal into one of these babies and it will sound great. You'll find it very difficult to find an overdrive that can make a good amp sound bad.

I really gotta get some of those pedals Blues Sarceno's father makes... I mean, a cheap 99 dollar squire into a cheap solid state but it sounds so damn good?!

Thanks for the advise bluark.

I also wanna know what happens when you hook up ur guitar to a heavy distortion pedal into a 'clean amp' by clean i mean amps that aren't meant for heavy rock and metal like a Roland JC or the Fender tube amps which are more reknown for their cleans? i'm guessing the sound will be pretty harsh and trebly unless the speakers are changed.

anyone tried the smarvo tube amps yet? and where's the review section of soft gone to?

sorry for t3h noobness

every distortion pedal will have gain knob and every amp will have eq knobs. Use those, with moderate gain, not saturated till all mess and it shud sound fine. But whether or not, liking the tone, thats another issue.

Since they are quite a few pedal builders here. Can anyone of you perhaps be able to make a small buffer with a tuner out? I am not sure as far as what goes into a good buffer, but people seem to set the axess bs-2 as a standard of a great buffer for guitar. Other great buffers that have been mentioned are ones from skrystrup, CAE and the morning dew eq. Would really be interested if one of you can build me something like that.

The shipping cost for the axess bs-2 is even more then the pedal which is madness.

Why do you need a buffer ?? Are you using extremely long cables ??
Btw... if you have one boss or similar pedal in your line ..you got buffer !!
A buffer is used to correct impedance thus giving u back ur lost highs ... other wise it can be a pain makin your tone too bright at high (gig) volumes...worst still if you have a pre-amp built in you axe!!

Most amps are class A (clean) and becomes A/B (dirt) at higher gain.
If a pedal creates the distortion then the amp just amplifies it !!! right ?! :D
