$30 fine for eating sweet

Seriously, ridiculous acts of SMRT.

Happened today: A friend of mine is holding a bottled water walking past the Tampines MRT from Tampines Mall to Tampines One. A fine noticed is given to him.

wow!! wait... SMART rules says "NO EATING/DRINK IN THE MRT"

did they say " if anyone caught with food/drink will be fine?"

how much does your friend 's fine cost?

that is really ridiculous! i carry bottled water and food on the train all the time, i don't consume it, but to FINE people for just carrying it on board?

what, SMRT is in the red already to the point they have to get income through this?

Well, let's face it.

Singapore itself is less than 50 years old.

A considerably large percentage of Singaporeans are practically uneducated barbarians.

A considerably large percentage of Singaporeans are still suffering from xenophobia.

So, I don't see how xenophobic people can progress to being socially gracious and considerate anytime soon.

Go and buy a car then.

You can eat or drink whatever you want in it and nobody'll care.

Just don't drink breast milk from your gf/wife's breast lah, like those China students reported in the papers.

I said, walking from Tampines Mall to Tampines One via Tampines MRT Station. The damn station is in between this two buildings with two open doors. You tell me which idiot will make a big U turn instead of walking through the station?

He's not even on transit. Its just a fine notice for now, I duno how much but he's gonna argue against it, or rather put it nicely, appeal.

Wow, tats ridiculous. And to think that there's guardian pharmacy at tamp mrt selling bottled water as well..I dunno what has this world become..:(

One sided story. Perhaps your friend didn't tell you the whole story. I don't think SMRT is so ridiculous as to fine somebody walking through the station carrying a bottle of mineral water. Something else is amiss. If that's really true, your friend can write in to ST forum. Will make a great story...:)

OOOOOH NO. Here we go again. And I realise some Singaporeans are so fake...some of them just say "obey the law la" but then they will be the ones complaining too. This is what makes the public voice weaker than it is, cause on internet forums they shout loudly about human rights but when they're behind a mic and given a chance to speak up, they suck their thumbs.

HAHA, nowadays, conventional shops selling food/water etc in the station itself.. What can they defend now. LOL..

SMRT technically does not have anything to apologize for - everything is within the 'rules' set by the LTA.

But if things as ridiculous as fine notices for CARRYING bottled water in plain view gets you fined they're going to take such a great PR bashing

this is is so ridiculous. they even fine for water?! good luck to those traveling from pasir ris to joo koon then.

what a "fine" country we live in.
