$30 fine for eating sweet

How to say no to burgers & other solid food and yes to sweet, panadol & plain water? Once SMRT start categorizing what can eat / drink what cannot - becomes totally chaotic lah ....

anyway ppl dun eat or drink for the duration of the journey ... I'm sure can tahan - if they were disciplined enough in the first place to observe the laws

I think you are making a case against the common sense of adult people. I think that most of the people are well aware of the difference of burgers and sweets, which you can also see from the reactions in this thread.
But in general the more controlling the laws and regulation (down to the hidden content of your mouth in the case of a sweet) become the more you take common sense and self-responsibility away from the people. What about giving a sip of water to a coughing baby in the MRT costs 30$? Sounds stupid right?

The other day I saw a man eating biscuits in bus 29. Mind you, he was freaking dropping large CHUCKS on the biscuits all around, and the bus driver didn't stop him!

You should have seen the mass amount of remains he left behind. Practically he left half a biscuit there

so what would you all sugest then? I am all ears .... and if we have diffirential laws how do we inform the masses, ascertain the grey areas of the "wrong doers" and judge the severity of the fine?

What bothers me more than anything else on the MRT is seeing selfish ppl not giving up their seats (especially the "reserved" special seats etc) to the needy... maybe we should have a fine for THIS as well?

bus driver boh chap or boh chi I guess

well...lets see..if i were to board the train wth my 2yr old son...and he needs milk...or water...or food....im going to deny him?

or a pregnant woman who feel nausea and needs her medication or sweets..

or a sick person who need to take his/her medicine...

supid laws with blatant disregard for commuters needs...

y dun SMRT do a spot check on bags like airports and confiscate food and water at entrances of mrt station...

ITS A FREAKING SWEET GOD DAMNIT...

 haha, be careful you don't have rest of your lunch between your teeth. It might qualify as eating food.

I am just asking for common sense in applying regulations.

Anyway have a good trip

Haha, dunno what the bus driver doing la. And the bus wasn't extremely crowded as well. The man was eating right in front of the back door somemore.

But srsly, even water they fine. I udnerstand if its something sweet, but water is ridiculous. And considering if let's say someone has to take the mrt from Boon Lay all the way to Tampines/Pasir Ris, which is a good hour plus on the train... The person travelling is bound to get thirsty.

Besides, Water is essential for life to ocntinue. Not food

Maybe we ought to learn from the Japanese... They're very zi dong one.
They don't litter and are very considerate. If we were to be more considerate...
We wouldn't need so many laws to force us to do the "right" thing...

some ppl's job in this world is to be an asshole. and they dun have conscience so they feel fine with fining ppl juz for eating a sweet or sipping plain water. being a jerk makes them feel good.

SMRT hired 500 enforcement officers to go round catching people eating (regardless what). I believe there is a quota and that I think it is really to pay for their own salary because in this economic downturn SMRT is such a gracious employer to have employed these '500 enforcement officers'.

However, I don't see the lady drinking water or the student eating peanuts being talked to like a criminal as opposed to the one sucking on the sweet. The medicine excuse by the lady drinking water was accepted without further probe (no sign of checking for medicinal presciption packs or something like that). This arbitrary as 'I inteprete it' enforcement will eventually cause unnecessary discord amongst passengers. Hopefully, it won't come to a point where a pattern of profiling by race or social class happens.

Since SMRT wants to be anal about eating and drinking...commuters have the right to be anal about the fares they are paying...

If i were to pay the same fare as someone to take a ride from point a to point b..and that someone has a seat while i have to stand...then its not fair...

If i were to pay for an air-con bus and the aircon is faulty or barely blowing cold air while passengers are sweating (which happens numerous of occasions)...its not fair

Employing the so called 500 enforcement officers is ridiculous and a waste of my tax money...this officers should ensure the UPKEEP of the trains/buses..not fining passengers for SWEETS...
