Unhappy with things are.

Hey guys, I'm actually pretty unhappy with the some music retailers in Singapore man. Ok look, I bought an Epiphone electric guitar not long ago. What ticks me off is the inability for sg retailers to provide the warranty that they're supposed to. Epis now have limited lifetime warranty, but the retailer only provides a year of warranty. Even for gibsons. And I think that stuffs sold here are way overpriced if you wanna compare with overseas sites. Seriously. I don't know, I wanna know how you guys feel and thoughts about it. Thanks

This issue has been much discussed. You can check out some other threads on it. The result will still be the same - not happy with it, don't buy it.

We cannot compare the local market with oversea market such as US. They have mega music store who can buy in bulk and sell cheap.

Warranty my ass.. My Epi had a faulty toggle switch..
Just solder can already mah.. Send to their service center, and I got back my SG with a mutilated backplate.. The whole damn thing is scratched up..
Not that I care since its on the back, but imagine if its a Suhr or smth..
It's the thought that counts in the end..

So I pimped my SG, and void the warranty.. Couldn't be bothered with them any more..
I mean what can warranty cover anyways? Just faulty pots/switches/etc. which can be easily replaced..
If the whole guitar breaks down, then it's your fault for not thoroughly testing it out in the first place..

And James is right.. It is constantly debated again and again and again..

what bugs me is that i bought a brand new epi G-1275...
and sweelee does not even stock electric 12-string sets.
htf am i suppose to set up my guitar properly if i dont have the strings i want.

Can't we like bring it up to CASE or smth? Freakin pisses me man. But gotta face it, they are pretty much the only way of bringing in such guitars. Which is so sad. Monopoly. Well i think that providing basic warranty at least gives your customers some faith and peace of mine.

If you are that pissed off, and you feel strongly about it, then go. Then after that, don't buy from them again, not even during sale periods.

Of course, you'll be missing out a few brands or models that maybe only they carry, but hey, you can get them cheaper from overseas... if you don't mind the shipping fees, tax, as well as the lack of human to human contact point, then that's great. :)

well the thing i agree on is the Ridiculous Price on certian items.
$1,800 for a gutiar that costs $699USD-$799USD

hmm, then again...
i see no point, you do have the chance to try the guitar beforehand. to check if its functional and to your liking. if no, then why buy?
if you think that its not worth the money then why buy it in the first place?
no point buying it when you keep complaining.

even if it turns faulty soon after you leave the shop. you cant really blame them can you? its just your luck i guess.

plus i dont really see the need in warranty. most of us dont really bother about it. spoilt? repair or leave it be. simple as that for most of use. plus nowadays, its not so expensive. theres always beez, seekz, nur...

also it wont matter, just as long as you take care of your instrument real good

fact:
this is how life is, accept it, live with it.
unless your going to do something about it.
if not, just hush and play along...

CASE is for situations where the retailer stiffed the customer, and did not deliver the promised goods/service. In any other case, the most it'll go to is the small claims tribunal court which brings a maximum penalty of $10k. After your legal fees and court fees, you might not even see much, if you even stand a chance of winning.

You (from what I can see) have no valid claim over the retailer for your complaints, which are nothing mre than just grief. Singapore does not have anti-monopoly laws which allow you to do so, and in the first place, it's not a monopoly either.

Furthermore, there's no such thing as a lifetime warranty. That's why even Epiphone calls it "limited". Which means that should your pots fail, they call it wear and tear, and not covered. Tuners? same thing. Pickups? same thing. UNLESS your tuneomatic bridge happens to split apart, and you can prove that it's due to NO FAULT OF YOURS. Then that's what the warranty does.

Honestly, I don't even bother dealing with local dealers for customer service. I go direct to manufacturer.

But then again, there's always the internet...

Hmm, I'm just probably frustrated la. It's kinda sad how small singapore lacks in alot. can't find a manufacturer's office. can't find their own boutique stores. limited range of instruments. kinda sucks

honestly, our range of instruments isn't as bad as you'd think. Just takes some more effort to hunt for what you want. There's plenty of lobangs everywhere. Just a matter of finding them.

If I can amass a collection of no less than 6 Ernie Ball Musicmans in Singapore, and not from the local dealer, then I'd say that getting stuff isn't as hard as we think. Just have to try a bit harder.

Also, once you start working, and have a good credit limit with your credit card, then purchasing online is a lot easier...

For me right, I just think that its very sad for such big companies to make overwhelming profits from young consumers like us. It's ultimately my parents money man, they're hard work and stuff. Making profits is understandable, but don't over do it man. Frankly, if its my own money that is overcharged, I'll take it as a lesson. It's my parents money, I feel the pinch and guilt man.
=(

hur hur hur... then don't use your parents money. Work part time, save up your daily allowance.... and then use it to buy your own stuff.:twisted:

but of course I jest.

Let me don my blue boxers and stained white pagoda tshirt like those coffee shop uncles. Compared to those days when the only guitar info was only available thro Guitar World which was sold at $6 or something like that at Swee Lee Plaza Singapura... Singapore today is a gear heaven.

Dude, even if you do buy online, paying for taxes, delivery etc. would probably cost the same. They're just doing business. If you'd like to, you can go over to the countries with better deals and buy then. Anyway why do you think you're being overcharged? Just because someone is selling it cheaper? Come on, it happens not only with guitars, just goes to show that you didn't do enough research etc. You'd only have yourself to blame for landing up in such a situation. Stop being pathetic, and make sure you make full use of the money spent and enjoy the guitar.

wth, you're sayin I'm pathetic just cause I made a mistake and like wanna learn more from it? Just cause some young guy made a mistake you gotta say that he's pathetic? gee, never expected the response to be this bad.

It is ok, just make sure you practise hard and make good use of the guitar. Who knows, you might earn back more than the investment on it by being a performer or teacher. And it is all because of this guitar!
