Unhappy with things are.

For me right, I just think that its very sad for such big companies to make overwhelming profits from young consumers like us. It's ultimately my parents money man, they're hard work and stuff. Making profits is understandable, but don't over do it man. Frankly, if its my own money that is overcharged, I'll take it as a lesson. It's my parents money, I feel the pinch and guilt man.
=(

Well, next time when you eventually get into a business, be it your own or not, try running at minimal profit margins. I'll come and patronise your shop.

BTW, I find that Davis runs at relatively low margin levels, and they survive but sheer volume. Maybe you'd like to shop there?

yeah, its a dog eat dog world out there.
if they have to do what it takes to survive. plus they have to pay rental fees, the staff, and taxes too you know. and seriously. if you dont like how they qoute their price then by all means dont buy from them, they are plenty of other boutiques in singapore.

hur hur hur.... ditto everything there whitestrat.

The business of a business is to make money. Anything else is just MARKETING.

It took me a while to appreciate what Davis is contributing to Singapore guitar/bass players. In the earlier days(when I was still skinny and that was a bloody long time ago!), I used to think like the kids here. Blah Blah Blah ....... Davis. Now I look at them with much respect.

CDoes this mean I can't get a discount off your pedals? Hahaha... Kidding.

Actually, it's a vicious chain. You make money, to get profits to spend on marketing, to make even more profits for your coffers...

wy1991, can you let us know exactly why you are so frustrated about the lack of local warranty - what is the fault with the guitar? Maybe then, we'd have a better idea of where you are coming from and perhaps be better at advising you of remedies.

yeah, i have to agree with betsy.

is the issue so sever that its worth to creat such a big fuss?
lets not be keyboard heros

Hmm, well I just feel that they should provide with what they're supposed to if we're paying that kinda money. I guess I sounded childish and all. But, I don't think that we should settle for less yea?

there is nothing illegal about rubbish stores. we work in a system where competition should drive out inefficient retailers

the japanese probably have the best customer service in the world. in contrast, you would probably be surprised at how bad the level of service in US guitar shops can be.

all these things can be discussed in length. but you would much rather want to be a happy man by discovering things such as vPOST, ebay, and online stores. for many of us, these are not alternative options, but rather staples.

sometimes i wonder how is it that i am better off BEGGING a dealer to bring a product to our shores, when i have order it and have it delivered to my DOORSTEP (sometimes cheaper some more).

complaining is for losers. take matters into your own hands and you will be enlightened. then maybe the stores will wake up their idea as well

sadly i have to agree. maybe those who mind about the price can boycott the shop. maybe they will realise how your so valuable to them and lower the price..

but then again, to them, your just a statistic. one less customer dont really mean anything to them.

so basically theres nothing you can do about it to change anything.

unless you open your own business, sell better stuff and lower price rate and steall all their customers...

but then again, if your doing that, will you even be complaing about how high their price is?..

and im saying 'you' as in overall. not exactly saying it to anyone..

I for one, think that a lot of guitars in Singapore are rather reasonably priced now more than ever, unless you're looking at some of the Gibsons and stuff. But generally the prices have reduced compared to a few years ago. I figured that if I can't take the prices, I'll just buy from Ishibashi.

yeah i think guitars now are more easily available and reasonably priced. its up to the business to set the price, its up to us to buy it or not. ure not obliged to buy nor are u forced. u have choices. we all do. choose them correctly. make a mistake, suffer the consequences.

u feel guilt? dont use ur parents money then. i work part time on top of full time school, maybe u shud too.

parents who dont understand the price of guitars and gears? i bought a 350 guitar + amp set, my mum thought thats considered expensive.

which is why i pity those kids starting out and their parents is the one buying the guitars. most of them dont know nuts and just want to get the cheapest for their sons.

Haha.. I was pissed, so I went out to get my starter set without telling anyone anything..
My dad fully paid once I arrived home.. I expected to be angry but he wasn't lol.. Same thing happened when I bought my first multi-effects..
But I felt guilty, so since then I save my own cash to purchase my own products.. Take note that I saved everything, just that my dad decided to reimburse it.. It feels better when you "earn" your stuff.. I did work a lil too to purchase my own gear..

yea when you earn it yourself, it's guiltless. There's also a sense of satisfactory.
My mum wasn't supportive of it, had to bluff her that it was my friend's guitar set, he lent me and stuff, but oh well, she eventually found out.
This is pretty much the first thing that she's paying for instead of using my own money. She was forced to, did well in my exams. haha

Oh the guilt is still certainly there..
When you realise you spent over a thousand bucks at one shot, there is gonna be guilt!:mrgreen:
Just less so, and it would wipe out after a while, especially if you're constantly blown away by what you have bought!

I always use my own money for gear, since my folks just can't understand (they're not guitarists) why I'm willing to pay $2K for a high-end guitar, or even $400 for a bang-for-buck acoustic when there's a cheap $100 one nearby. Heh.

In my opinion, Davis isn't outrageous in terms of pricing. Not sure about their guitars but their D'addario and Ernie Ball strings are the cheapest I can find on this island.
