IMHO, I think for a show which have so many different bands with different setup, they should have 2 stages. I think no human can have a proper mix or what so ever in such a short time. don't worry, I not the guy doing the sound but I'm thinking bands should always have their own soundman cause different people mix differently and no individual can cater for everyone,
Is always good to make sure you are in a good hand for live sound, to make this sure, get someone that is know their stuff well. Not some friends of yours who do not have the knowledge of the equipment, I don't think the house engineer would like that.
I mean we all have heard all kinda "the engineer for this sound should be shot dead" theory but have bands, musicians ask themself whether did they do enuff to make the show better?
All this is just what I think, I know there would be people who would disagreed on stuff I say. or If I've offenced someone or things like that, Sorry hor.

haha i think rustynailz really showed what a true rock band is by doing originals. if i wanna hear a cover i might as well go pub listen to those pub bands.

Looks like we don't really have the expertise who knows how to do live band mixing for broadcasting.

Maybe James should show them how to do it.

I think the problem with live bands mxiing in broadcast is the people here doesn't always have a broadcast mix, many people just take the FOH mix for broadcast to cut cost.

I do think if the stage mix is bad, nobody can help also.

Imho, I think the judges, aside from one or two, are rubbish.

Already Jade vocalist and Amber told me they cant hear the monitors at all and it affected their pitching on stage...The first hour of rock bands mix was really bad esp for Lucify. Vocals and Lead Guitar are too outfront with no reverb. Drums are very behind in the mix with the rhythm guitar missing. The 2nd hour with Jing Bao Yue Tuan starting to have a better mix...mmm...Maybe becoz its a 3 piece band so its lot easier to mix or the engineers changed shift. Anyway, as what James said MediaCorp should have did a multitrack recording and mix it for broadcast later in the studio. Unless the engineers doesnt know how to mix band sound for broadcast then I can say ...... I understand that our TV speakers are so small to hear the lows and highs frequencies and only mid freqencies plus most of the lows and highs are already being "chop" off during transmision due to small bandwidth, the engineers should have boosted the lows and highs to do a mix for home TV speakers.

Defintely, multi-track recording on location then bring back for mixing would be good. I guess they don't really have the budget and time for this show. Sadly to say, Singapore doesn't always talk about quality on sound when it come to TV. They would spend 1 more dollars to get something done better. If I remember correctly, the worst music mix I heard for TV so far is MTVasia award. I was so disgusted by the mix and what worse is it happen in singapore. anyway, I guess there's what local TV people think, vision after sound. Spend the money on things that you can see rather then heard. still, to have a good mix on music, everyone plays a part. FOH and Monitoring engineer, bands, crowd, equipment... everything.

Haha...I guess they have made alot from the past sms voting competition and should have the budget to to get a HD24 if they are serious in doing SuperBand to get the good sound mix, if not its really unfair to rock bands who work so hard to perform and in the end get bad sound and bad comments...
