spore local music scene..

Rudra is just one reason why the folks here that prport to spport local music should know when to talk and when to be quiet. There is wayyyy too much talk for useless bands that play useless noise that they want to call music.

Rudra is really good. Not my cup of tea, in terms of music, but they have something special in them.

Does any one ever wonder why they don't get the required publicity????

Instead, we get noise-making bands pretending to be making music and using "Singapore" as their flag/flagpole. And what happened to the two 'local media-savvy' bands that went to the states recently???

Cheers to Rudra and truly good local music!

LAI LAI!!
I wanna join!! we can all chill with peanuts, its like a heaven and earth experience..

one easy way: get an ang mo..solves all the problems...they just need one kacang puteh then they hail the band like that band was the first and one and only Tr00 Singapore band..the others all will be overshadowed...

kacang puteh = the perfect solution..

haiyor... what media savvy band wor.... they work harder than anyone else... they make effort to get their music out.

do i sense some sour grapes here or what?

bands working hard in this damn "music industry" also kena.

bands sitting around behind their monitor complain this complain that also kena

bands who work damn hard but dunno the value of marketing also kena

this is showbiz man... if you don't make effort to promote yourself, NO ONE WILL.

Just to let you guys know...

From Rudra news page...

We are pleased to announce that the Composers and Authors Society of Singapore (COMPASS) is co-sponsoring our US Tour. We would like to express our gratitude and thank them for their commitment and support for our music and the Tour.

Oh no! According to RoRK's logic: media-savvy = bad! Co-sponsorship??? That's terrible! Time to strike them off the list of RoRK-approved "good local bands"! Damn them for trying too hard!

hahaha. come on man. success doesn't come easy. it's not just in sg. wow u've played a few gigs. how many gigs have rudra played? impiety? it's how much you're willing to work for it. but of course if ur music sucks to the core and only sounds nice to u then maybe forget it la.

i personally think its the god forsaken culture here... partly due to the government's effort of attracting foreign "talent" : foreigners are aways better mentality - import talent when we as a society & "country" can nuture local talent... people here think tat Ang Mo always better:

they also think money can buy everything so they don't take the time to grow or nuture local talent

all tat said just try your best : i bet most musicians like me won't go far. i appeared in 20th Century Guitar (USA) which is a USA magazine-even a non-local magazine editor can recognize my talent but why are local so lukeman about my music?? go figure...

u can do all that u can do , u can be the most talented but if people don't give a damn about your music u won't go very far: tis a real but sad truth!

if you can't make people give a damn, blame the people?

either quit, try harder, or actually do something to help change the culture.

Aiyah. It's good to be media savvy. What's sad is that the media itself is not savvy and instead they call bad good and good is often ignored. That's my contention. The extent is that there are better bands that deserve the limelight but don't get it.
Cheers

aiyah, good and bad how to argue? i like one thing you say lousy means what? and media like one thing you say lousy also means what?

The good will likely stay on for long time and they will be known overseas. I'd use these as benchmarks. It is important for the media to be impartial and even friends and promoters not to overhype a band/performer. Years ago, I used to think that people lile Dick Lee, Jacintha, Chris Ho etc. were the only talented musicians - thanks very much to the local media. I was thoroughly dissapointed when I heard their stuff. For years after that I stayed away from local music. My thoughts then was, yikes if our best is like that then it's going to be a waste of time checking out other local music.

Fortunately, I've ventured out to listen to more local bands, thanks to the Internet, and I've been pleasantly surprised with the talent we have. We're still short in a few areas but there is a lot of talent but they seem to be spred out across too many bands. It would be interesting to see more of the really good talents working together.
Cheers
