SG appreciation thread

Any opinions on fitting a mean 90 in the neck and a SD JB in the bridge for more versatility? Although i am sceptical abt the compatibility when used together........btw my sg special is currently fitted with SD 59 and JB. Thanx guys for all ur advice!

as long as u dont miss that women tone, and rather have a dirty blues kinda sound, then its ok.
could probably pull off some nice SRV like stuff.
and nothing wrong with a p-90 / hum combo, see LP BFG :P

Yeah i tried the bfg and kinda dig it's sound that's why i am considering of pulling the same PU combi in my SG too.....although i love the woman tone to bits......but i have a LP to cover that........haiz confused lol.

I still think the Robot guitars by Gibson look ugly..
Its about heritage, not technology!
Lol..

Niteblade, nice special.. Open, trebly sound perfect for Classic Rock! Specials aren't bad, and at the price; it's a steal!

MrBukka, nice pickup combination you're looking for over there.. Bet you won't regret it man.. Can even coild tap the JB for versatility..
I just restrung my Epi and played with the coil tap on.. Really interesting tones for single coil, where the volume really affects the amount of dirt in your tone..
And the hums are as fat as ever! I still feel the Epi is a gem; beats almost ALL the gibbies I've tried (excluding VOS lol)..

Didn't know there was an SG appreciation thread! Here's my 2003 Gibson SG 61 reissue.... Amazed with the amazing quality and tone of this beast, no doubt brighter and less heavier than a Les Paul but comfortable playability!

Gibson should just concentrate on quality checks for their newer guitars than come up with crazy robots.... Maybe PRS should just buy them over!

Godspeed bro just wondering how u manage to squeeze in the coil tap pot into the small SG compartment at the back man......i did a coil tap into my LP and it is already tight as hell......cant imagine how it is in the SG keke........btw thanx for ur advice and i think i will just buy one set of mean 90 and experiment on myself keke......

Just wondering did any Gibby SG owners out that use 500K pots on them and does it make the SG more open sounding and bright, do u guys dig the tone???

Btw this is my beloved SG.....

coil tap can cos the epi bodies are just a little thicker.
the gibson from what i read needs to shave off abit from the part :P

Oh man that doesn't sound gd lol.......hmmmmm oh well i shall try the Mean 90s and see how they blend....hopefully they can cover both humbucker and single coil sound well enough for me to not shave off my SG keke......no obscenity implied here kekekeke

My Epi is sort of based off the 61 reissue.. It is much thicker and heavier than my Standard..
Yeah, Beez said his work on my SG is one of the hardest he has done, and he is darn proud of it.. Took him damn long to precisely fit everything in, and also took him damn long to find screws to mount my pickups (vintage American ones are of different size).. Expensive screws man.. 4 for $20, but Beez with his contacts manage to secure em for much much lesser..:mrgreen:

And nice SG.. Heritage red is sooooo darn sexy!

Haha Beez my man the only guy i go to for fixing my "babies", knew him a long time and trust him always with a job well done!

Btw godspeed bro, my SG is not finished in heritage cherry......it is actually wine red, looks darker than the heritage cherry that i really dig........

im sure sticking the SG into a tanning booth will help lighten that wine red finish to a nice heritage cherry :P
nitro finishes ftw.

Ohh.. Well subtle differences anyways.. They all fall into the same category; SEXY..
Haha.. Yours is a Special right?

Everdying:
Supreme bro? No pickguard looks damn awkward man..
The SG Junior looks cool.. I don't mind getting that one!
Or the SG Deluxe.. Or the SG Custom..

What's an SG Elite?
