Waoh SG appreciation thread i dig!!! Btw any opinions on SG's loaded with p90s? Cuse i am thinking of fitting p90s to my Gibby SG special......either on the neck only or both pickups........any opinions will be appreciated cheers!! And btw wicked SG lovers down here, respect haha!!

Wah.. Very demanding indeed! Lol..
Maple neck, ebony fretboard, and mahogony body..
SGs with a maple neck? Never tried one before..

I'm pretty comfortable with the Standard..
So if I do anything radical, maybe change to Floyd+string-thru, paint it white and put on a red tortoise shell pickguard.. And maybe slap some GFS P90s..
Everything else similar to the Standard..

well i want it to be neck-thru...and maple imo is the better material for it.
mahogany neck-thru may not be stable enough.

essentially this would make it close to a LP...
some artist has his V this way also...maple neck thru w/ mahogany wings cos he wanted a LP tone but V shape.
i just cant recall who it is...might be mustaine.

I find maple a little sticky at times, and not as comfortable as mahogony (but the finish matters as well of course)..

cos the SG tenon isnt that long...and making it set-thru is a pain in the ass...so neck-thru is the easiest option.

oh yea, finish.
i have to tell them to request for bare wood, cos i dont want poly on it...and no way in hell will those china factories finish in nitro.

So bare-wood or something like my faded? Forgot the term Beez used for it, definitely not satin..

Then leave it as it is? Or send it to be professionaly finished in nitro? Nitro relics are the bomb man..

but yea...those are basically stained then with 2-3 coats of lacquer on top.

one of my SGs i had it refinished in nitro black...cos when i got it...the original alpine white had turned a piss yellow.

before.
that is a pickguard template, theres actually a single coil rout underneath.

after.
notice i had the 2nd knob filled in, cos i have no use for the tone.

yea...SG-90 double.
rare version with the gibson printed schaller floyd, verified by gibson as coming from factory.
im the 3rd hand, bought it off someone who got it while in australia from someone else.

dont need the tone cos for metal who uses tone anyway?
it aint the blues...i got enough SGs for classic rock and blues stuff anyway.

SG custom of cos has ebony board, more historically correct, and of cos around 2.5x the price

will definitely be an upgrade over the special's dual 490s.

i think some ppl are selling GFS 90s here? or look for the gibson p-94.

chapter2 : Where did he buy it from? It's a Gibson of the Week SG Standard with single coils.. Quite nice Gibson tone, unique in its own way..

MrBukka : Dude SGs with P90s are sick!!! Pure crunch haven.. GFS Dream 90s, Mean 90s, Seymour Duncan Phat Cats, Fralins P90s, Harmonic Z90s are some considerations.. I myself intend to do that for a looooong time, but the vintage MightyMite I have makes my Epi a considerable contender to my Gibbie.. Superb tone that one!

Any opinions on fitting a mean 90 in the neck and a SD JB in the bridge for more versatility? Although i am sceptical abt the compatibility when used together........btw my sg special is currently fitted with SD 59 and JB. Thanx guys for all ur advice!

wow, the SG Robot is finally available in more traditional colors.
but i still have no use for that robot.
