Problems in the MRT

In Thailand, if you are standing in a bus and you are carrying, say a briefcase/bag, people who are sitting will automatically offer to hold it for you. First time it happened to me (I didn't normally take a bus in Bangkok), it took me a second before the penny dropped. And then it was, like wow, what a concept!

Don't know if it happens in the Skytrain - I won't be surprised as it seems to be part of their culture. Wouldn't it be lovely to see it here?

Thats Singapore for u... Having a "Global City" mindset but with ethics worst than the primative barbarians.

Anyway the worst problem for me is when people fart that smells like they have never taken a dump for ages (esp those silent ones).

One time, I was sitting down and beside me, a person got off the train. So a fillipino man asked his toddler son to take that seat. But just as the little kid was clambering up the seat, a local uncle chionged into the train and demanded that the toddler give up the seat to him.(by raising both his arms in a "hey, its my seat!" manner)

I immediately got up and asked the uncle to take my seat..he did, but the next thing he did was RIDICULOUS. He took out his wallet, then removed his IC, pointed to his date of birth and showed it to the fillipino man in order to prove that he was entitled to a seat. WAH i won't forget the fillipino man's disgusted look on his face...he didnt say a word...but I was so embarrassed by that uncle man.

PDAs are a turn off.

I hate people who demand for seats. Shit, we don't owe them nuts. It's just out of pure respect for our elders that we do so. I would want people to give up their seat to my dad so I do the same. The "Do to others what you want others do unto you" ideology.

When you run into an asshole, you'll know he's an asshole, and when he's an asshole, you'd want to do the same. My way of going about things is, I'll be nice to people who don't behave like assholes and serve them double asshole pie if they behave like assholes.

Thank U Tides of Blood ... and then lets not forget the football hooligans on their way to / from matches ...

I saw a 13 yrs old school boy walking in,forgot from which station,he spotted an indian guy about late 20s or early 30s and simply walked towards him and say :"stand up." Immediately the guy stand up and the boy sat down. The indian guy has to stand for at least 5 station stops before he gets off. First ever in my life.

Well, European subs are not too clean, and even places like Switzerland have a vending machine for drugs.

But yeah, here in Sydney, when it's the peak hour of the bus, people getting home, kids getting off school, the students aren't allowed to sit when they're older people around, don't know if it's a law, but the bus driver will keep announcing " students please offer your seats to the elderly, students please move out and stand, you are suppose to offer your seats " gets quite funny sometimes

But here, people always offer their seats, and say thanks to the driver when they get off the bus.:-D

Apparently in Korea, no school kids will keep their seats if there are any adults standing. And we are not talking about old/pregnant/handicapped adults. ANY adults. Has anyone seen this to be true?

No they don't. They'll still stick to their seats.

That's because these students are paying concession fares. Australia's public transport regulation usually demands that concession fares passengers (mostly local students) in trains and buses have to give up their seats to those paying full fares (ie. adults). Foreign students paying full fares and elderly are excluded.

Hmmm, seem to recall reading something like this in the Straits Times (an article or Forum letter) when there was a spate of commentaries on public transport etiquette. Maybe I'm in error here.

We need a reminder of some golden rules:
- Say "Please" and "Thank you"
- Don't point and stare
- Give up your seat to those who need it more
- Public Property means your father helped pay for it, so take care of it

LOL.

how about JC students giving up their seats for poly students?

haha and what's the logic for that? JC kids are supposed to be richer mehh?

lol funny thread here.

though if you guys have been to NTU in the morning, on 179 there is this elderly lady who will beg for money on both decks of the crowded bus. I mean the first time it happened she got my sympathy, but I was told she is ALWAYS there and always asking for money from other passangers so I don't know where that stands...

=doggieshaman

THat is her profession...i guess....LOL

ANyway...what i really hate is people learning on to the poles...

I guess poles are meant for standing passenger to get a grip...

THere are cases where I am griping on to the poles and one lady just lean on it....she cannot even be bother she is learning on my grip....whhhhewww

It happened pretty often too....

huh...

dude i am guessing the way that works is cause JC kids have to wear uniform, ie it is easier, much easier to check against abuse. Whereas poly dudes will look like anyone out on the street so maybe that's why they don't get concession for poly?

haha and to lestermusick, maybe the lady was tired/have weak arms/you are too sexy, she can't resist?

lol. ok lah what i really HATE is when people (of various ages really) talk and joke so loud on the bus that i can hear them over my headphones, which really means they are very loud

I always sleep like a rock on the train and when I wake up, I always find myself leaning on other people's shoulders. One time got pretty girl (:-D) but another time got bangla man. And yesterday even better I woke up and found myself with drool on my shirt. Seriously. HAHA!

Okay, not exactly relevant, but anyhow interesting read!
