Problems in the MRT

yeah it's sad really.
i was on the train a few days ago, standing even though my body ached cos i saw loads of other people who could use the seat more.
when we reached orchard, loads of people got out, and as i saw an old lady (60+), hobble to the vacant seat, one middle aged auntie zoomed into the seat and sat there looking happy with herself. i glared at her and in the most polite voice i could possibly muster when im pissed i told her to give up the seat to the old lady which she so impolitely snatched from.
she ignored me and the old lady kept telling me in chinese that it was okay. so i decided to just support the old lady till she reached her stop.
sad really, how that auntie was probably a mother, and might never have imparted such qualities so important in our asian community to her children.

I've encountered my fair share of pricks on the various modes of local public transportation.

Yes, it's always the same actions. Rushing in without a care in the world, leaning on poles, not moving in, not giving up seats for the the needy. One word - Kiasu.

It's absolutely disgusting to see such sorts of behaviour, especially when Singapore's a developed nation. To have such low lifeforms is pure embarrassment.

I've stood up and made my stand, told off enough people, yet it's still the same old cycle.

But that's life, huh. All we can do is to continue doing what we're doing (Giving up seats, being all civic-minded) and just pray and hope we make a difference.

SEE... that auntie prolly wasnt tot by her mother either ....

We need to have more messages / signs & annoucements to give up seats etc in NATIVE MOTHER TONGUE LANGUAGES .... IMHO English speaking dudes & dudettes may be a little bit more "educated and civic minded" and would do the right thing - not always the case, but more often than not.

Geez it's already like being in a sardine can in the mornings taking MRT and the bladdy cab fares are SO HIGH nowdays ... chalat lah!!!!!!

Once, me & my friend together took the MRT to Orchard...and 2 stop away, a Old-Man and his son came into the MRT from Jurong East Station and they were standing....

The Old-Man took his Umbrella and poke my friend's legs (not once but 3 times) and gave him a angry look...then my friend got up and gave his sit to this old man. THe son was staring at my friend like wanna wallop my friend like that. My this friend is a very decent man......so funny but very pai-seh when everyone in the MRT is watching the whole scenario....and I can't control myself...so I laugh out so loudly - dont bother even everyone is laughing at me.

PS: - Talking about Pregnant Lady - Yes I will give up my sit for them (cause poor thing she).....but if she is unreasonable and expect me to give my sit (even before I could get up) - What I will do is ..... say to her " Wah-Low-Eh ... How come your Tummy so big lar , Drink too much Beer lah izzit, try not to drink so much - it's really bad for your health" then I get up - laugh ... "Kekekekeke !... you better sit down, wait you off-balance chai-lat."...Wah me & my wicked ideas again.

Apparently in Korea, no school kids will keep their seats if there are any adults standing. And we are not talking about old/pregnant/handicapped adults. ANY adults. Has anyone seen this to be true?

well im half korean but i havent been to korea in.. 4 years.
i hardly take public transport there, but i can say it is highly possible.
the kids there (majority) are polite and well mannered.
the teenagers on the other hand..

let's just say our singaporean pai kias dont stand a chance.

how do i know?
my mom was a leader. :P

In my travels to Europe & Austrlia - despite the weird stuff that goes on in the underground esp late at night, I see the general population do give up seats to the elderly, disabled or young kids.... Singaporeans & all their immigrant "guests" working here need to have this aspect of basic "courtesy" ingrained into them.

It's the "kiasu" factor I guess ...

Actually- I've one more very very funny incident in the MRT.. As you all know MRT cannot eat anything while taking the Train. There was this Ang-Mo woman who also came in from Jurong East (I dont know how she was able to hold a Cup of Ice-Cream and eat), I guess she is a Tourists, and she might have hide the Ice-Cream in her bag before that....

You know that type of Ice-cream (walls type) but she was eating it witha white-colour plastic spoon, standing right in front of me and 5 of my friends, we were going Disco again to Orchard.........Now, a few of my friends & myself was staring at her (as she is a pretty woman), then she become ya-ya (gave us a look), then the train jerk for some reason, and she use her hand to hold the Rail with her right hand (the left hand holding the cup of ice-cream) and the Plastic spoon is in her mouth........Suddenly, we hear the sound " Pek.kkk" and the plastic spoon break into half......one half drop on the floor and the other stuck at her mouth......She then split out the Broken spoon into the cup and start saying all the F-Words.............Oh my Gosh (I really can't control myself and I laugh out so loudly).....my freinds was worst - 2 of them their right hands was pointing at her and the left hand grabbing the stomach & laughing out so loudly too, then evryone at the MRT really cannot control themselves..............The Ang Mo lady then scoulded us all the F-Words.......Everyone kept quite (didn't answer her back) - and all I said was "It was really funny, we are sorry" and she went out of the MRT at that very stop....

come to think about it (we should'nt have done that) - but it was really Hilarious, we just can't control ourselves...

Regarding this problem:

For the really old people, and those pregnant ladies whom I can really tell( Skinny everywhere, except for their bulging tummy), I will bother to stand up and offer them the seat.

But for those whom I am not very sure of. If they look like they probably need the seat but there's a chance they'll reject me and perhaps even scold me, I normally just stand up, and walk towards the door and stand there. That way the person is not obliged to sit, but the seat's there for them if they want it.

haha interesting stories back there (:

anyways if fgl isn't going to tell.. I AM.

ok, these are only for the Metro in Paris and the Tube in London.got good got bad.

good one first, this one was in Paris. i was 13 back then. i didn't mind the gap between the platform and train, then tripped, fell and grazed my own kneecap.

then this really tall and mean looking guy (think Bernie from City Music, but born in Paris with even MORE tattoos and tons of piercings) came to me..... and offered me a plaster. it was quite a pleasant surprise because at that point i was VERY stuck with the idea that people of different skin colour are not able to coexist.

ok now for the bad.

basically, the whole station reeks of piss, whether it be the outskirt stations or the extremely busy ones. it's a common sight to see the homeless and/or drunkards making the station their crib. couples making out and beyond can also be spotted.. amidst the piss-emitting corners of the station.

actually its not as bad as the Shanghai MRT, basically there U'll need to elbow to get ahead anywhere or else you'll end up with an elbow to your face.

My first few times i was being gracious and realised that I was left behind most of the time for as long as half an hour, at the end of the day, I played their game and got into the train. I'm almost sure that the natives there were secretly nodding their heads in approval at my integration skills.Mind you, EVERYBODY, young and old, they push and squeeze and kick and elbow to get in and basically fight for their seats.

well at least its not as bad as this.

Eh, why u all so suay one. The only case of offering seat I remember was when I was on a long train ride home I fell asleep (probably i'm the guy with the gaping mouth, at least I wasn't drooling yet) and when I opened my eyes to check where I was i saw this pregnant lady standing in front of me so I just jumped straight up, half asleep and let her sit down. Everyone was laughing lah damn paiseh. Lucky no school uniform lol

had this incident on train not really rude or wat but u know how couples like to make out in public areas? its ok lar but don over do it lar.

well here goes, was at the NEL then this young couple i think still secondary school one came in at serangoon stop, then got alot of seats the never seat down but stand at one corner n the girl was like all over the guy, its quite irritating la cos maybe we not getting some haha but anyways the mrt jerk to a stop n the girl "SSSPPPLAAATTT" on her buttocks and she was stunned, then she started scolding the poor guy while she still on the floor " AIYA WHY NEVER HOLD ME, nananana", then rush out of the train at the next stop n the poor guy never said anything but just follow, twas quite funny to see that n even funnier to see everyone's face contorted n cramp trying to control from laughing.

next time wan to make out find somewhere quiet romantic then get it on la, and also the ppl boarding not giving way issue starts from young man, i always see parents going into the train with kids telling their kids to CHIONG once the door opens. its inbred already. sianz. best is stay at home place stocks n shares, or football betting win alot of money then dont need to go out at all one.
