what's the diff between an ibanez am73 and as73? they look the same to me...

AM73

AS73
AS73_BS_13_01.jpg

the AS73 is actually a smaller bodied version of the AM73. note:

*the smaller cutaway bouts
*rounded rear body design
*the AM's treble side F-hole is virtually 'cramped' in between the knobs

also, the AM73 is discontinued, if you are keen, the ones you see in stores are the remaining units. act quickly 8)

budget abt 600-700 bucks
should i get a RG350EX, RG350DX, or a S520EX
or there are other ones to recommend?

all three seems good 2 me.... what do you guys think
o i also would prefer a reasonably good double locking bridge. the floyd rose kind of thing. thx in advance

pai seh i got start another topic :(

the 350 comes in 2 versions- DX/ EX. difference is in the pickguard type, eveerything else are identical. Ibanez used to make all EX models in matte body finish with their Jap RGs (non-Prestige models) but that practice ceased in 2003.

between the 350 & 370, the latter is devoid of a pickguard, again, this is a cosmetic difference, nothing to do with tone. it's a matter of visual preference, even the list prices are identical.

the S520EX isn't an RG, if this is your first S-series experience, know that the guitar features a dual curve design for maximum playing comfort. it also sports 2 less frets & an entirely different vibrato bridge- the ZR.

S-Series: dangerous curves...

this bridge has an in-built trem setter unit which ensures that your vibrato bridge remains in a neutral centre position when you remove the strings. the trade off here is that the whole bridge unit adds weight to the body, but it's nothing in the Les Paul category...

hey, need a little help comparing guitars.

my current guitar is a GSA 60, after using it for 1 year i've met with several problems: tremolo is hard to change tuning with, no lock for tremolo, I need double hums and the sound is just on the thin side, and sustain is kinda weak.

I was wondering if i should get a new guitar this sales? cuz mine is really limiting me and it's not worth it to upgrade it. I play mainly modern metal with my band and stuff, very simple rhythm parts so i just need a thicker, heavier sound. still, after 1 year of n00bing around, I've started to do some shredding here and there, learning bending and more tecniques. I'm getting into instrumentals, maybe vai-ish music.

Should I go for an Ibanez RGseries(RG321 specifically) or an SZseries(SZ320 specifically)? I picked these two cuz they both have fixed-bridge, which is what I want cuz I drop steps down very often. but if anyone of you have any better suggestions for me, please do make them. I don't want a guitar that will limit me in my next 2-4 years down the road.

my estimated budget is about below 1k.
thanks for helping.

thanks bro sub, most impt to me is feel of neck and playability, plan on swapping for duncan or dimarzio 7's anyway...btw whats your take on the pickups, duncans or dimarzio's? think can't go wrong with TZ7 and AN7 right?

the ibanez-dimarzio affiliation has proven effective time & again. however, Duncans (selected models) may sound just as lethal in there. the 1527 employs a direct pickup fixture, devoid of any scratchplate/ mounting ring assists, Duncans' models have a rectangular screw flap bracket edges that need filing before it can fit into that Ibanez cavity. refer to the pics below for a visual reference, note how the Dimarzio version has rounded edges 8)

bro, i certainly urge you to invest in a new guitar, it's kinda clear that your current GSA60 (i used to own one) is not meeting your needs any more.

you made a good choice- the RG321/ SZ (320/ 520) are fixed bridge models which will yield good tones for various music genres. however, if you tune very low, there might be string tension problems, using thicker gauged strings to counter this set back might need a nut-refile. do consider a baritone guitar for this purpose, which is a more suitable tool for you, unless you toggle between regular & down-tuning often. this is where i urge you to check out the Mike Mushok baritone, never mind if you are not a fan of his, this guitar is worth the consideration.

Ibanez Mike Mushok (estimated price after disct- $780)

Last minute recommendations:
to those heading out for the warehouse sale today (16th Dec), here are some worthy models to check out, apologies for the last minute tips...

*Ernie Ball/ Music Man: there are 3 units (there might be more) there, albeit being left-overs, which are worth checking out.

*Peavey Wolfgang Jr: a down-sized version of the discontinued Wolfgang, a fixed bridge unit, worth checking out- i played it & find it thoroughly enjoyable.

*any Japanese Fender guitars/ basses

*older Ibanez guitars featuring Edge/ Edge-pro bridge units

*Gibson Voodoo/ Gothic series (yes, Gibsons, not Epi...): despite being quirky, these guitars are good per se, if you can't live with the peculiar finish, it's your loss...
