Andi, yes I've gotten it already! What do you have for me?!

And yes! Edwards Jimmy Page Relic.

It's basically a 59' RI. It doesn't say Jimmy Page anywhere, and I'm very happy with that.

I'm ambivalent about the relic-ed look. Either way is fine with me, just so happens that this one is relic-ed. And I must say the relic-ing is very well-done, subtle and looks very 'authentic'.

Other things I love about it is how resonant it is, despite it being the lightest Les Paul I've ever tried. It is exquisitely light, and it's neither chambered nor weight-relieved. Supposedly, they used japanese mahogany.

As one would expect from Edwards; long-tenon, Gotoh hardware with aluminium tailpiece. SD pups (SH-1N/ SH-5), neck-binding, nitro-over-poly finish. That gives the top a nice, matte finish. Perfect for me because I find the overly shiny ones a bit toy-ish.
Well, MIC or MIJ, it's fine with me, because the quality speaks for volumes for itself.

A happy day for me!

Any suggestions on what brand of tubes? I agree, they do sound rather harsh. In some cases sterile too... But I attributed that to my RG instead, hmmm...I sooooo want my Les Paul now...

Get premium tubes..and get rid of the cheap sovtek crap in it!

Get a Tung Sol 12AX7 for preamp....

I managed to recently get my hands on a Reflector EL84 for my power section. Its a super high grade military tube thats already discontinued and no more in production. Even if you can find one, they aint cheap but lets just say i got my hands on a bargain ;)

Overall, I find my amp alot smoother and nicer now....It also has more clean headroom and dosent add too much of its own gain when you crank up the volume compared to before. Perfect for drive pedals.

yeps ... there are light mahogany.... it has light color when u strip the wood :)
u often find it on young mahogany tree

the red colored mahogany is heavier and has darker red color :D (its pretty rare now) it came from old mahogany tree... maybe 50-70 years above

both have nice tone :)

just curious, how does weight of the mahogany affect the guitars tone?

weight is not equal to sustain, thats looking at an instrument like guitar at a rather amateur level. If weight is sustain, then imagine using a slab of concrete, iron for it..

anyway, there are many factors ranging from density of wood to construction of the instrument to components use on it plus the condition at which the instrument is being played etc to determine how well the instrument can be played and within the tolerable range of "sustain" according to individual players.

in short, sustain is one word, the definition behind it(as associated with geetars), can probably be used to write a book on it.

i should have been clearer. by heavier, i actually meant that the wood would be densier >_> thanks fr clearing that up anyway
