Partscaster/DIY guitar Appreciation Thread 2009

Can post pics of custom guitar? Not DIY-ED but custom made can?

Hi Bro,

Please feel free to post your 'custom' job on any guitar with your sweat on it. It can be custom paintwork, custom decal, custom combination of parts, custom electronics, custom body design etc... basically, guitar customisation is something that you'd do to make the player's requirements.

If you're looking at a complete redesigned guitar; i.e. not a semblance of any other guitar including body shape, neck scale lengths, material, circuitry, finishing treatment... then perhaps you're thinking of Innovation or a step higher... Invention.

Even starting from scratch and building a guitar that resembles another is a DIY copy BUT demonstrative of a skillful luthier in the making (or in some cases a reknown skillful luthier in the making). The Japanese were a master of this for most of its products in post WWII manufacturing (I'm not refering to just guitars). Of course, after a while they went on to innovate, invent and now theorise.

Personally, besides knowing the parts that I put on my DIY copy (p.s. I had once an Amer Deluxe strat with a sunburst body made up of wood pices that doesn't match up, so why should I risk it again) and customise the circuitry that I can play the guitar with the amp set at 3/4 gain yet still able to pluck clean without having to stomp on any pedals and by a flick of the selector go 'garang', the whole experience is fun and a good escape from the routine paperwork of a deskbound career.

Will post some videos of my more recent projects soon (I hope).

Cheers!

Phil, u looking at the wrong neck.. do scroll back a page.. heh
this page is just a little mischief distraction for the kanji thingy, eyemo mode..

edit:

some update regarding the older squier -

from headstock decal it look like bullet series,

but china only started making them from 1996 onwards

prior to that 93-94 only japan, korea & mexico, & the earlier rare few ones from 80s usa

so i presume this 95 neck is in a grey area, transition period when production were moving to china?

just fyi :)

Hello Again...

Hi DIYers,

It has been a while since i post up a new project... esp after receiving a few PMs and phonecalls re my latest projects... here are a couple completed ones (these are revived strats) and 3 more on the way...

3TSB Trilogy (the first one was posted before)

Raw Nerve Trilogy

Oh Ya... the inlay-less rosewood neck on the flamed maple body is the one now on the 3TSB with hand painted pickguard. The flamed maple CBS neck (on the middle ash body) is now on the flamed maple body. The inlay-less birdseye maple neck on the 2pc ash was hand crafted from a raw piece (received slotted but w uncut fretwires, with paddle headstock and roughcut neck profile).

Cheers!

My single humbucker strat with reverse rosewood headstock. Pickup is a Stan Hinesley Kashmir. I used the HSH pickguard cos I couldn't find the single version, anyway, might be upgrading to HH in the near future. But for now, it really sounds great!

what reverse head neck is that?
all the nice sunbursts & flame necks
one day i may go for ebony board, good?
just use masking tape the pick guard can lah haha

eieio: Its a lefty neck that I got from HK via Ebay..Eden necks..I might be upgrading to their latest editions that has jumbo frets n has side dot markers on the front n back so that it can be used as a lefty or righty :P If use masking tape, it will leave marks on it,should I need to use the other cavities..might upgrade to a HH config in the near future, otherwise this one really rocks! Ash body n has a good sustain..

thanks for the heads up on the markers,
how does the sustain due to it being ash?
ive ash body, its a hardtail no tremolo cavity

Well, I played it thru with distortion/overdrive and it really sustains well for an ash body, since urs is a hardtail with no trem cavity, I assume there's still plenty of wood left for more vibration n sustain hehe..:P

cant live with them cant go on without them teles.. hehe
another tele parts caster.. out of focus mode, sory about that
