Partscaster/DIY guitar Appreciation Thread 2009

you've to see if your tele is routed for such a pick up configuration. If your tele is, bring the pickups and guitar to a guitar tech for installation.

Hey, guys.

I'm intending to head down the Partscaster route for my next guitar. I know what I want in terms of parts but now I am just down to selecting the body and neck that would bring everything together.

Are the EDEN ones worth the price that they are or should I splurge on more pricey (original Fender or Allparts) ones instead? Read something on Harmony Central about mismatched neck pocket sizes.

Thanks in advance.

dodgethis: Its best to get something a bit pricier. The Eden ones that I used before did not follow Fender specs and thus mods needs to be done to accomodate Fender parts and this takes up a lot of time and money. If u looking for an affordable good quality body, Allparts (More ex than Mighty Mite, uses Alder) or Mighty Mite (priced lower than Allparts and body uses Swamp Ash) is the way to go. As for necks, my preference is Allparts..nothing else ;P And of coz, if u have a lot of $$$, there's Warmoth and USACG.

Or u could search thru Ebay to find used Fender Strat/Tele bodies and necks and mix n match : )

Good luck! Feel free to post more here for the benefit of those who wish to go the Partscaster route :)

Check this out. :D

The kit costs like 529/595 SGD and its good quality. (its Carvin after all)
Just need to paint and assemble to your specs and for extra charge can specify type of wood/hardware/inlays

Thanks for the advice, guys. Will go calculate the final costs and weigh the options. Now it's down to the budget and see what I can get for that amount of money as I want to upgrade my older Strat as well. Appreciate the insights!

just a word of caution - if you're going to get more pricy parts, think twice before choosing the specs. Resale value is poor with these custom parts, and if they cost a fair bit of money, do expect to lose as much as half the amount if you end up not liking them and selling them on the forums here. I can't stress enough how important it is to do your research when it comes to choosing the specifications. I found the Unofficial Warmoth forum to be a huge help.

Partscasters are always huge risks. If you don't like it and sell it, you're going to lose a lot of money cos resale value sucks. When you do get everything right though you'll be rewarded with a guitar that fits you perfectly. I know I have :)

will a 5k custom shop make me play better? hehehe
go for it my brothers in arms, walk the path less traveled
here is a mock up shot of my current project, refinishing neck in progress

U mean u want to put 2 humbuckers on ur tele?

i plan to turn the pickups configuration to HS...

but after a research regarding routing and everything...
i dropped the thougtht of doing so...
it would be expensive and time-consuming which i'm nt ready for...lol

maybe ill just buy a les paul...hehe...

hey faizal, hows the eden neck?

Not bad..its just that I found the neck quite thin as I was used to my Allparts neck on my Strat, but it had jumbo frets which made it easier to bend strings. U can ask fgl for his opinion too, since I sold the neck to him ;)

hydesg, man that quilt is pretty. love the V-shaped grain near the bridge. Finish by USACG?

Now i see, eden necks do not have the strat headstock anymore right? Plus do they come in 21 fret versions?
