Opinions on emo

Hmm.

Perhaps we could call it a day? Then warm up again until another fad that actually promotes self-mutilation etc crops up and we can all pull out the heavy artillery by then.

yeah, lets stop bashing emo...

like what i_am_emo said:

"of course there would be kids who will be intrigued by this emo term and they think that it's cool and they want an identity for themselves therefore they act like wat emo ppl would do. but for those who are like that tink about whether it's worth feeling such pain and trying to act sad and all when you don't have to."

and a few pointed out the relation of emo and attention seeking... and most of us know that a lot of songs under the emo genre are being played on the radio... i've also mentioned that emo is becoming more of a marketable fad... and in this case, "posuer" summarises what i_am_emo said above...

i think all these factors add to the bad overall image of emo... we got people who dress emoly, act emoly although they're really not, carry musical instruments around, form bands and play emo songs (althought they can't play for nuts)(i got to admit they're a handful of really talented emo/sceamo bands here in sg, but the rest...), and hop on to the "emo sulture" band wagon... so many posuers distort what the real emo was and so it has become what it is today: pop emo

well, the situation is like that, and bashing emo does not necessary help those who're self-mutilating...

we should stop bashing emo and focus on why youths self-mutilate... there's one group who're posuers trying to act emo, and they's the other group who're really in depression not under the category of pop emo... those attention seekers will get bored of it and grow out of it some day but those who're really under heavy stress and depression may need real intense counciling to get them out of their situation...

clearly these 2 groups cannot be put under the same general term of "emo"... we have pop emo; the emo we know today and the emo everyone is bashing... and we have seriously depressed teens who don't really care if every other kid wears converse or have long fringes..

i want to make this short
emo is a disgrace to rock music in general. i'd honestly rather listen to korn and new metallica than emo.

it's just so gay!
