Is there a local music scene

he's in our mind, always, no matters where he is now!

UP YOUR PTS!!!!!

It seems people have the idea that in magicland america you just need to form and band, and if you're good enough, a big record label will pick you up and you just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Surf a couple of overseas forums and ask around. The mainstream situation is not that different from Singapore. 90% of the population have no idea what a Pink Floyd is, but can tell you what color is Paris Hilton's underwear today.

The bands there work hard, scrounge together every bit of cash they have, buy equipment, rent transport, hire roadies, organize their own gigs, go on the road and give out flyers.
They dedicate themselves to the band, practice everyday, probably live in their parent's basement and you get the idea. After years of this, some of them get a break and get noticed by a label, or some of them work hard enough at promoting themselves that they can release their music independently.

Over here, we won't give up our jobs. We complain that organizers don't provide good equipment. We don't want to sell any tickets, don't want to do any promoting of our own gigs. We don't go on the road finding places that will let us play. We don't tell people on the street, hey, come check out our band we're playing here and here on this date.

Naw, we have band practice once a week or less, and come to forums asking how to get gigs.

Truth be told, there is a scene in Singapore. There are so many working musicians and composers in Singapore. Crazy Elephant has an awesome band. Timmy is popular at Timbre. EIC and Unxpected earn quite a bit from their weekly gigs. We have lots of studio musicians who play the jingles on our advertisements. Jeremy Monteiro has numerous awards and praise from jazz magazines. We have some composers writing symphonies for overseas and local orchestras. We have local chinese composers writing songs for Taiwanese and Hongkong superstars.

So are you saying you can't make it as a musician in Singapore because there aren't any jobs, or because I WANT TO SOMEONE TO NOTICE ME AND BE MY MANAGER AND ORGANISE EVERYTHING FOR ME AND I WANT IT NOW.

The day I see a local band quit their day jobs, go door to door to every pub and ask to be able to play there, go on the street and promote their gigs to the public, hire proper roadies, managers and whatnot. Is the day we will see a local band get mainstream coverage.

up your points bro blueark bro... but is your post of any intelligence? cos so far there ain't any posts of intelligence here on this thread lah

So what got intelligence posterings? All talk only mah.

I thought coming up with an Internet forum poll where you can lie your ass thru' might get some people to lie your ass thru and pretend that they actually will do something not for themselves for once. Ah well...

Altruism is truly dead in Singapura. Time to start taking more photos of yourself in soft-focus or buy more Toto...

He's a Citibank Investment/ Private Banker for the past few years. Can't remember... Doing very well, I heard. How was the KL trip?

Toldja it's a good career choice after hanging up your bass.

the KL trip was good man (the foood is kinggg - but sadly no vegetarian ramly burgers).
And in all honesty, the crowd's wayyy better than Singapore. They were so awesomely receptive (while sober). Its the first time for most people over there hearing our music, and yet the response was really good. Many even took the initiative to come up to us after the show to ask for our myspace, merch, albums.

above it all, after the show. a national tv station (SOLELY DEDICATED FOR LOCAL INDIE MUSIC) interviewed us. where can we ever find that in singapore?

no demand, no supply. ):

it takes a lot to say that but if you don't even have the chops... and really you don't then sighs... don't bother lah.

keep posing for the camera and watch that neck lines. pose regularly in front of the mirror and watch out for angles that are not that flattering.

Haha. What to do... some people can learn from the best teacher and have the best equipment around but no talent lor... sad right... the best way is to continue underestiminating people around... that is the right way to go sweee!

Somehow i feel that we are playing a "pull the girl's ponytail and see her reaction" childhood game on forums.

Yeah, the KL crowd is really insane. Doing/ playing shows there is fun. Was at their Twilight Action Girl night on The Loft, Zouk, KL on a Friday. One of the best clubbing nights I had! Properly smashed and jumping up and down on a couch singing Oasis' 'Don't Look Back In Anger' along with the Malaysians. Killah!!!!

We are thinking of going up again. Hmm...

Vegetarian ramly burgers are a travesty! The thought of it!!!

the person who can bitch and bitch with weight are usually those who reached certain status. Unfortunately for most of us, when we bitch, its mainly weightless and formless, coz we havent reach anywhere else other than putting our head forward and allowing people to pull our hair
