FUZZ Addicts, over here!

edgie, so how you using your Beano again? Liking it?

I'm no longer stacking pedals nowadays since I got my Fetto Nord but before I use to stack it with a cbread DLS set to either rock or rawk mode. I don't really use it as a stock treble booster per se but instead I flip the switch to the UP position to give me more mids.

Hi, I'm new here and I have a question about the Analogman Sunface. I just ordered an NKT version with a 9v power jack and was wondering how badly does it really affect your tone? Thanks.

What on earth do you mean by how 'badly' it affects your tone?

It's a fuzz pedal. It won't be transparent. It will color your tone and then some.

Since you've already ordered its kinda late to ask that question eh haha. Btw, are you asking on how the power jack, NKT trannies or the pedal itself will affect tone?

The power jack. I was reading on the website that wiring the positive ground transistors to negative ground in order to use a traditional BOSS style power supply can negatively affect your tone. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with something like this.

Not sure if it does affect the sound of the fuzz.. You could try sending analogman an email to ask him about it.

Some people believe there's a conceivable difference when using batteries as opposed to power supplies.

Well I here a slight difference in tone when I disconnect my PSU and use batteries but seriously, it is so negligible that it is not worth the hassle of batteries. Plus the slight difference doesn't MEAN batteries sound BETTER, just a slight difference that held no specific impact in tone, playing, and overall satisfaction.

Bro, he doesn't mean just using batteries compared to a PSU. To put the power jack in the pedal it has to be rewired differently cos of some polarity issue so it changes the circuit and might cause a difference in sound.

Not sure man but I the fulltone 69 should have done it too (think they use the same trannies)

On the topic on fulltone. The fulltone 70 BC-108 fuzz is quite interesting with the mids control and it can be powered up to 18V.. Didn't really take notice when the older, big box version came out tho.

I got a PTD Mini-Bone from Malcolm.

Nice little sil fuzz. The trumpet side of things - we all know about that.... but the best thing is - it can handle my 7 string! Which means a baritone guitar would be at home with it. All the low end comes thru, quite clearly. Also, despite the lack of a tone control, I like how the Mini-Bone is voiced quite neutrally with a slight mid-hump - this fits my setup preferences, which is to get the clean tone I want, and then let the pedals take it from there.

Did I say it was fun to play?

Cool new pedal, I liked the demo by fatback the most. Really good playing.

Been looking around for a new fuzz recently.. The monsterpiece isn't really to my liking anymore. Need something more fuzzy and can cut well.

Fuzz Factory is the shiznit.

Its said to be based on a tonebender but I can tell its quite different in some ways, definitely crazier than one .. Doing a simple mod on it now, hope it works haha.

EDIT: Don't know why the stupid photo can't be rotated..sorry if it annoys anyone cos I'm pretty annoyed at it haha.

Yeap, it was pretty cheap (thanks bouncychu) and I just happened to be looking for a tonebender clone at that time.. Devi was selling the ruby and 2 other pedals at USD50 some time back so the original owner might have bought during that sale. Don't know for sure tho.

Haha the shoegazer seems like a smaller blackout effectors twosome to me. One side is big muff-ish and the other is more splatty. Really liked the PGS demo when it came out.

Godspeed: I might have just found my cutting fuzz man.. Don't know if it cuts better than your fuzz fact but after the mod I don't think it'll get lost in the mix.

Ah crap, forgot to take gutshots when I did the mod. I don't think the circuit is that similar to a tonebender but people do compare it to one. I haven't played a tonebender before so I can't be sure.

Some shootout, not the best quality and the tonebender is just the m9 model: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGSOoDsZv6M

Hmm, neither of those two sounds are similiar to the MKII, MKI might have some similiarities, but then again maybe not. One things for sure, both of those sound PISSED OFF. I could use a pissed off fuzz..

Just to let you know I requested a deadly MKII from Tommy Castellucci, with a knob to cut bass. It will sound something like a Vox Tonebender, but with much more mids. I asked for a MKII that has that very vocal, nasal sounding midrange which I hear in some Jeff Beck records in Truth (Monster recored btw) and he suggested me this recipe. It'll be in a D*A*M sized enclosure cos I really love that. Sadly I had to delay the project because I used up the cash to fund for my IEMs urgently. I was just about to contact you about selling my current MKII.

One things for sure I will ask him to resume on that MKII once I get some nice funds. Then I'll sell my current MKII.

Yeah the ruby sounds pissed off. I made it have more treble and bite by clipping one of the caps, it lost some of the cool lower octave disharmonic sounds it was getting before but it'll cut live for sure..

I need to raise some cash as well. Pretty damn broke after buying the DC-10 and some other stuff.. You've just gave me one more reason to sell my 2 headed monster haha.

Your idea of the deadly MKII sounds good man although with the bass cut knob I don't know how much bass there will be left cos there wasn't much to begin with heh. The MKII you want sounds quite late 60s-ish? Like Jeff Beck/ Early Zep maybe even clapton's cocked wah kind of sounds.

And yes, truth is one hell of an album..
