I think James should just lock this thread, this is a very sensitive issue, we should just concentrate on music here.

i agree with purplehaze... that was the cause of a big uproar in one of the forums i was in... but 1 comment... its not right to make fun of anyone's religon... no matter against it you are...

both sides are in the wrong.

you dont go around insulting people's religion
and you don't try to kill someone because he has a different opinion.

Its OK to discuss abt this if u dont mind go to jail ya... :D

Dont discuss abt something u dont know quite well ya.. :D

MrBoon, its better u Go Fish ya... :weedman:

.

as long as the discussion is civilised, backed by solid evidence and most imptly, respect for others, its fine to talk about the issue

And just when you thought you might end up with a reasonable discussion..

Have to agree with madmonkeykungfu - the newspapers had a right to publish but they shouldn't have, given the current political climate. Religious satire inevitably offends a number of people - just that some are more sensitive to it. The reaction to the cartoons is unwarranted - peaceful protests will convey the same message. We've seen this happen before - some films end up offending a bunch of folks, they protest, filmmakers apologize and life goes on.

These were cartoons - meant in jest (and no doubt were in very poor taste). We have laws to prevent people from inciting racial tensions through their publications - but those are intended for things that are truly malicious.

It'd be regrettable if democracies end up legislating new laws to fight this problem rather than just letting sanity prevail.

I am glad to be living in Singapore where Peace and Harmony prevails.

To prevent one from talking would make him feel being gagged. But it really require a tremendous amount of care, sensitivity and mutual understanding and respect to be able to discuss things like that, especially between people who are born and believe differently.

Boon, I am with those who are being hurt by senseless and irresponsible acts, and I am sure most of us, if not all shares the same sentiment. But not of us are mature in person and in thoughts and have seen enough of the world, and that is the BIG problem.

Very true.
I got suspended last year for saying stuff I probably should not have about my college principal on a website.

I have learnt my lesson well. In Singapore, we have to be cautious. Very cautious.

i think it's great in singapore that we have to show a certain amount of respect to everyone...even someone we regard with contempt.

btw phil which school are u from, r u from fairfield sec? i remember there's a dude who started some website to scorn at the principal...dun tell me u're tt guy! :D

Ok MrPolitician,

U can Go catch Chicken :smt117

I like what one protestor wrote - Just because you preach freedom of speech doesn't give you the right to insult our prophet!

I think it's true, freedom of speech has nothing to do with this. Freedom of speech should be when you say something backed by facts. Anyway not my tai chi la. .. Teaches them not to fuk around with muslims.

Im not taking sides with anyone one here. I feel no one has the right at all to scorn any other religions, n doesnt all religion teach peace? 2ndly, i dont not support violence, but i not saying their actions are wrong or right.

I like to put myself in pple's shoes, n i know in the what its like in the middle east. Its not a matter of just simple religion issues, its their heritage and life basically. So i understand how they can feel so hurt.

But i guess the news only reports the doom n gloom, cuz it sells? I believe ard the world there r also muslims who choose to live in peace n forgive those who have stupidly cause such an uproar, n this is not being reported.

Like news only reports planes that crash, but do they say " historic no. of planes have landed over the world yesterday"???

Peace

just to answer to u'r question.
NO its not ok. because we're not allowed to picture how prophet Muhammad's face is like.
so having "his face" in a cartoon with a bomb as his head is a BIG NONO. very sinful indeed.
even in an "cartoon movie" where theres prophet Muhammad as a character, his face was blurred.

freedom of speech? well, i think this is a bit over.
muslims to be pissed, yes. take actions the right way according to law. violence should never be considered.

yeah true...... freedom of speech tend to get abused wif these kind of ppl.... why cant use tat freedom of speech to get wat u want or talk to make things beta in tis world.... damn...
