Band Prb? Pls Help! Any Suggestions, advise .... anything???

I roughly understand how u feel dude. But sometimes pple just want to play songs. Not free jams and try to cook up something. Anyways tt will only work if the band members have good chemistry and are willing to explore other music style.

Anyways if ur band thinks u deserve a solo spot, u will get ur solo spot.

My advice? : Go solo and record ur own stuff. It's way much better than playing it a band where u feel tt ur talents are being stifled.

i can tell you really like exclaimation marks :? lol okay anyway, take it easy ya. and its like what nefianz said, its not as if you're getting what you want now. no harm moving forward and taking some risks, if you're really serious about the music and have the passion, there will be some obstacles but you'll find the people someday. determination! stick it thru pal.

I feel that if you want to be a soloist, you should start by recording your own stuff. Show to people what you are capable of - because I feel that it is hard to get band members to support you if you want to be a solo guitarist. People like Steve Vai, Satriani, their bands are hired guns.
Else, what's wrong with playing songs? Don't play the solo note for note in the songs if you dun want, and do your freeplay improvisation thing. That's what a guitar solo is for, for the guitarist to do his thing.
No offense, but for me, I rather listen to ten songs than someone wanking on his electric for 45min.

i meant dat compose while free jamming! not juz free jam all the way and come out of nothing! cos although i can sit down, and come up wif something, i love composition from free playing! i dunno, maybe im weird!

even during jamming! i juz play thier songs quietly! i suggest here and there! but noting much really goes!

If they are truly your friends or 'bladers', shouldn't you be talking to them about these issues? Its not that hard if you are honest and I'm sure being friends they'll do their best to address your issues of being an egomaniac and a dickhead! Playing in a band can be picked up easily, but staying in one as you might already know, requires one to take a step back at times and ask for your mates to do the same. Wo men si blader....

after reading so many replies from your posts, just to let u know that to form a band is not an easy task. The commitment that every musicians put in i can say is different. U r still young 21 only. Guess what i had formed a band (year 2005) at the age of 24. My band members all abt the same age as me. We were so called form at the correct time to play in the band and enjoy those fruitful times during all these months. If we formed in this year i guess we cant form it because everyone commitment had changed. But i know their heart are still in the band. U have so many band members sometime it will conflict because everyone had their own thinking.

Remember one important thing is that band consist of more than one musicians. We are talking abt team effort. If u realise that your band members are not in co ordination that mean somthing is wrong. Is there any leader in the band? Have to learn how to compromise one another. If none of them agree what u want to do that mean your idea of doing somthing is not what they want. U might consider leaving the band. But take note that forming a band is not easy. So think abt it and change your mindset too. Dont put in too much expectations too because u expect good result if u have expectations. Most important is to have fun and enjoy to the fullest!

After reading through, i guess at the end of the day u need to know the objective of your band and what are u exactly looking for?

Do you want a fun-jam band?
Do you want your band to move towards performing on a large-scale basis?

What is the objective.?

If the objective being in this band is vastly different for everyone , suffice to say, it is kinda pointless.

I mean say one of you just wana jam for fun, and the other is very "passionate" about creating music and performing. Long-term wise, it is not very healthy.

I could reckon your feel on the "no matter how many times you talk to them they wun listen" coz i experience similar thing with my bandmate. Say they insist on playing xxx cover songs , whenever i suggest yyy songs, they say err ok ok but they nv got down to learning the song i want to jam or stuff like that.

You must understand firstly that, it is NV easy to work around a band. Compromise is very important. What you can do now is to re-look at your band objectives. If all of you are having the same objectives/goals then meet up and work towards it. Better still, write it down, have an agenda/timetable. A completion date. Often by setting goals/targets, we will be more likely to acheive it then empty talks.

Being new/noob is not a problem. To me , the most important thing i wana find in a bandmate its his/her passion in playing music. Say your bandmate is not so gd at playing rhythm now, it dosen mean he wun be gd forever. Give yourself and your bandmates a chance.

Everybody have their own idea, maybe the way you put across to your mates is not in tune with whats in their mind. You may feel that you want to add a chord coz you 'feel' it, freestyle. Perhaps your mate feel otherwise, the objective is to compose a song together and somehow that particular chord or riff dosen match as a whole. What is considered "beautiful sounding" freestyle" to you may not be with the rest. The best thing to do is to reach a compromise. Use a midi/laptop to record the jam sessions. Play a few different version, maybe some style which is what your bandmates prefer and a version where you can to showcase your "impromtu freestyling". After the jam, listen to the recorded stuff, seek other opinions and see if you can incoporate the songs.

BUT again, if your just looking for a fun-jam band, then the objective is different,, just find someone who`s proficient enough to match up to your standard and churn out some gd stuff.

Hope it shed some light to your prob, remenber no problem surpass your passion in playing music if you are determine enough to solve it.
