$30 fine for eating sweet

srsly... what is up with gov. so where does the $30 go? cleaning up the mrt?

more than likely i think it goes towards paying for all the additional "enforcement officers"

EDIT: Just watched the earlier videos, turns out that the increased clamp-down is related to the number of pictures on STOMP.com.sg of people eating on the train! It spoils SMRT's spotless reputation, surely.

Hope some STOMPers kena. :D

STOMP. Heh. Never liked it. Everyone suddenly becomes the own law and government and tries to outcry against every single minor thing, every complaint and grouses they have against society.

Gosh, I have no problems with the law cracking down on those who eat things like curry puffs, kueh, but something like sweets is deemed by the law as an offence?

What will they think of next? And I'm surprised to hear that drinking water is an offence? What if I happen to feel sick and need my panadol?

...............

It'll be a case by case thing..Hope so! :D

seriously.. I normally see SMRT drivers or bus captains with bottled water and drink and gulp every once in a while.. so the rule/law doesn't apply to them?

Its totally ok w me to see drivers do that.. but then there will be double standards.

common sense tells us that it's ok for bus drivers to drink plain water in the bus.. and it's ok for commuters to drink plain water in the bus and mrt too. but.. haiz...

technically the baby is eating so fine he baby.

fine them for sucking on their mom's breast in a train.

oh and after that fine the mom for indecent exposure cos even breast feeding is too much for singaporeans.

hmm if they fine/make a big fuss (which happened to me before starting to fine people) people drinking plain water on buses/trains when having a sore throat or feeling sick, why dont they fine their own people too? it's just hypocritical to not adhere to what they enforce.

Yea I think most of us have come across at least once someone happily eating on the train. I've seen a bunch of school kids eating a McDonald's meal on board...Haiyo.

It's becos of ppl like them that authorities have to come up with these ridiculous fines & rules.

Nowadays they constantly increase the MRT fares, we're not take free rides, WE PAID and is not cheap.

So wat when the train is dirty? It is smrt staff that needs to clean it, is under part of maintainence. They are susppose to be the one that serve us since we're paying them, and not acting like some king trying to fault everyone else except themseleves when the train is not in a clean state.

Instead of hiring some non constructive ppl(work with eyes and mouth) trying to fine us, why can't they hire ppl to stay in the train for cleaning and maintainence ? Cannot drink water cos water will spill, during rainning days when the floor is wet and dirty will those ppl who fine us finally clean for us?

Yeah, i think soon they'll impose fines on bus drivers for taking sips of water every now & then.

Haiyo. And i thought the worst was over when the S'pore govt smashed my heart into pieces by banning chewing gum. :(

McDonalds? That's amateur stuff. Now let's all try eating roti prata with curry fish head in MRT trains. Sure kena maximum fine one. :D

The next will be a fine for walking into train with wet shoes from the heavy rain. Because you dirty the floor with your sole print they need to hire cleaner and people just walk away after walking around the whole train.

I believe this is another source of revenue for them. How many thousand people take train a day? What's their revenue margin? Does it really matter to them to get a cleaner to actually clean the mess? Or most of the time just sweep up a few wrappers. Fares are increasing and our freedom is decreasing. Lets just say chewing a sweet can be a small matter, why a $30 fine? I'm not saying that eating FOOD as in meals in the train is fine. But more to a sweet, or lets just say non-messy food.

AT THE LEAST BE REASONABLE FOR WHAT WE ARE PAYING!
So from JooKoon to Changi we don't eat/drink or even just a sweet?

R-E-T-A-R-D-E-D.

After the long interview with the news anchor lady, wouldn't any of them be more likely to drink water?

Come on guys, I know SMRT wants to make a point, but I think they're way over they're head on this issue. So if you're having your medication, it is alright? What if the doctor was to ask his/her patient to drink a little more fluid?

I don't think this make sense, yes a rule is a rule but not everyone is munching on a burger or sipping on a cola which is in the no eating sign. This rule of sweets and water not being allowed on board public transport should be reconsidered. Do something about LTA!

You do realize that other people take the train? The fine is to deter people from eating in the train, because honestly would you enjoy sitting in a train with lettuce from burgers or pieces of chips or spilled sodas on the chairs and floor? Hiring people to stay in the train and clean up after you? What a huge unnecessary waste of manpower to cater to inconsiderate people. YOU are acting like a king in thinking that it is their duty to clean up after you, and not your duty to behave like a responsible commuter, not a celebrity in a limo.
