$30 fine for eating sweet

OMG.

A lot of things in Singapore are becoming a joke.

A big fat stupid joke.

What next? Fine $35 for sneezing & potentially spreading your germs to the man next to u?

Others would, but let me make this clear,if you deny their power/authorities to check your IC,its the same as denying a policeman/woman as it is still under the law that eating is restricted and they have every right to suspect anyone who is,since btw it is in thier 'land' or premises .

its not a crime if u nvr hand over ur IC. even if its a policeman.

i agree in wateva bro heckler mentioned. the points he mentioned are exactly what i had in mind and had posted earlier.

wat do u expect from a man who suddenly the throat gets itchy and he cough cough cough til the throat is sore. cant take lozenges? cant take a sip of plain water?
have to tahan till reach destination or stop next stop,go out, tap card,go by the roadside and drink his water? then go up back and wait for next train?

tis is not sumtink illegal. not as if u are caught smoking contraband ciggs, having sex with minors, smoking in hawker centers wateva...

its a blardy sweet,a sip or two to wet the throat.
its not as if u litter the blardy train.

fine those losers who eat their burgers!
fine those losers who cut their fingernails and toenails!
fine those happily spit in the train!
fine those couples who make out openly in the train!
fine those who didnt give up their seats to those who need it more!
fine that apek who works there who check my hardcase and saying its too big to bring in the train!
find those staffs who are not polite at all to the customers!

REVOLUTION OF THE SWEET SUCKERS!!!

But seriously, it's Singapore right? People in general take note that there is one more moronic law and move on obeying it. MRT will make money with sweet sucking and water drinking people (especially foreigners?) which do not know about it for some time and then they have to think of something else to finance the 50 new enforcement officers (like dirty shoes or dripping umbrellas).

If you stand up against it in public you probabely find out that freedom of speech here is more like PRC than the 1st world.

Just my opinion

i have already mentioned earlier, the money from the fines, doesnt go to mrt, it will go to LTA.

LTA is taking the fines money and doing all the appealing and stuff. MRT just the enforcer. The only thing that benefit mrt just a cleaner enviroment for general passengers while LTA is the one behind that handle the money and stuff.

So you say that MRT has 500 extra people on the payroll to make LTA a favour without getting any kickbacks? Or isn't the SMRT not indirectly government owned in the end? I can't believe there is no financial connection between the two. Does someone know?

the 500 enforcer aint new post, those are existing station staff(which all along are alrady supposed to enforce those rule) or redeployed folks from other areas.

anyway, mrt is a business private business entity thats gov linked, but not entirely under them. Why LTA involved coz anything thats on the road of singaland and involved transport, they are the one to go to. And if you wanna find out more, can try searching for infos dating back to the early 80s where gov decided to build mrt and how a faction of the MRT group became the LTA of today..

oh, and the finiancial report of smrt is an open thingy, since they are public listed. But inside just numbers and numbers words so small that unless knowing whats about, if not, its hard to understand whats going on.

so whats the outcome of the lengthy discussion?

Move on forget or try and push the limit and see where it goes?

i will totally ignore. just carry on eating taking the sip of water or eat the hacks sweets - coz i have to chill my throat.
if roger or rabbit approach me,i will not surrender anything.

Ok, had a short look at the financial report 2008.
Shareholder Profile shows that of shares 54.5% belongs to the government, therefore you can basically say that Singapore is in full control of the company.

This is not really unusual for public transportation with national importance.

wouldnt it be interesting if Mr Foo is the father of someone from soft, aka softies...

anyway, imho leave the name out and focus on the regulation discussion and stuff.
