$30 fine for eating sweet

ok.. Guess my ideal suck.. so in a situation when there is spilled soda water, guess we have to clean it ourselves, giddy or thristy must endure, raining days take plastic bag carefully wrap up my umbrella make sure water don't spill on to the train. Clean my shoe first before stepping into the train. etc etc. Thanks for the advise

actually there is no need of getting workers to clean the train while it is transporting ppl la. its the customers that have to take responsibilities. its just so obvious tat all tis is becoz of the unreasonable ppl who HAVE to eat the food they packet.

i just wonder why...
u packet food... to bring back to eat or maybe to go sumwhere lepak and eat rite?

why must eat in the train? super hungry meh? might as well dont tapau! kns

You know what's the best thing about all this?

You don't see the Banglas or Sri Lankan or Indian workers do it (eat or drink in a train).

Yes, those supposedly lowly educated construction workers who have come here to earn a honest living, helping Singapore expand its infrastructure for its future generations.

I've not seen one or know of anybody who has seen these workers eat anything in the MRT or in the bus.

Are you telling me that these workers are more socially responsible and considerate than us 'first world' Singaporeans?

Could be.

To me, although it sounds plain retarded to fine commuters $30 for eating a sweet on the mrt, in a way, I think I can understand why authorities have had to resort to this desperate measure.

I mean, people are blatantly broadcasting that they've eaten a whole meal on the train. I've seen school kids whacking away on burgers & snacks too & I'm sure we've all witnessed this at some point in our lives.

Despite the announcements that warn people that drinking & eating is not allowed in the trains, people still do it.

In fact, that is the very same reason why chewing gum was banned in S'pore in 1992. It was because silly people could not even dispose of their used gums properly. Gum littered the streets. It left sticky messes under tables, cinema chairs, on the bus, under your shoes. It was plain gross.

Although I am a massive fan of Wriggley's spearmint gum & I still feel that I am a chewing gum addict, I find that banning chewing was something the govt had no choice but to do.

If not, how will inconsiderate Singaporeans ever learn?

eh want to eat at least eat cleanly la. Burger make sure you take big mouthfuls, make sure got plastic around you, make sure burger wrap. Drinks just double bag la. Wont die one. But if spill, protocool is to move out.

the $30 fine doesnt seem to be deterring people from eating/littering in stations though.

just saw bubbletea cup and sweet wrappers in bedok mrt platform today

OWNED. O.o

SMRT ar... sigh

ahhhhh .. authorities should view cctv and identify the culprits, blow up their pictures & paste in a dedicated "wall of shame" that should be set up in each & every Mt station - then next time he / she takes mrt - nab him & fine $100

There is a trick to this.Eat/drink during peak hour period.Where the SMRT staff arent bothered to do a walk through the train. Not that i have done it before but i've observed people doing it.

iF sTEVEN gERRARD WAS DRINKING BEER IN OUR MRT - HE WOULD BE FOUND NOT GUILTY ...

there are times when MRT staff do not bother, for e.g morning period. they do their walks usually doing evening period, saw guards at pasir ris for 2 times at the exact same period alr.
