WORST BUY/SELL encounter you had??

Yea I agree with faber glass! Murder? Not scared ah. I will report! LOL eh looks like there ARE people who never had 1 bad experience man. Kudos!!

I have got the same experience as kerplunk182 in one of my first few transactions. Met a dishonorable person who tried to lowball me and I gave in somehow coz i was in a rush. Still feel abit sore about it. But oh well...gotta pay for lesson right?

BTW, do you guys do research before buying and selling? like the "market" price and some stuffs?

Retard: Then I must be one of your best customer right?? hahahahahaaha.
I never had any bad experience, yet maybe.

Never had a bad dealings with softies cos I've always put on my selling thread that I don't deal with fussy people .

When I buy from them, I also can't be bother if the physical condition is mint/fair/or what not. As long it works, it works!

Bought a CE-2 from fellow softie with missing screw, grommet and the outlook is ... but it works so no complain :-D

Only had bad experience with non-softie.
Come for my Fender.
Say everything looks good but in the end try to lowball me saying he can get it cheaper from China ... so I tell him to get it from China.

You threatened him? What rights do you have, to threaten him?

When a buyer confirmed his interest in your item, is there any obligation that he must buy it?

If such buyers are in the wrong, I have a very long list that I've been keep track.

Just move on to the next buyer, and ignore these time-wasters.

Yes. Once you agreed on the price and terms, you basically just signed a verbal contract and should honour the deal. If not, what's going to stop a seller from changing his mind about selling to the first confirmed buyer after someone else offered a higher price? If you were the buyer, you'll most definitely cry foul.

I've had people offering higher quotes than my asking price for a couple of gear I was selling after I told them they're reserved. As much as I was tempted, I declined because I already made a promise to the buyers.

So just as the seller must honour his word, so must the buyer. A man's word is his bond. Unless of course, the first buyer turns out to be a wishy washer who can't make up his mind and another person shows up and want to buy your item, then you have every right to sell it to that person.

To the OP:
Not sure, if threatening them is right but I also had a deadbeat buyer who chickened out after haggling a huge amount off my asking price. After accepting his offer, he still asked for a lower price. I simply told him I had already accepted the price he offered and I had done my part by reserving the item, so he should honour the deal.

No reply. I just post up the item for sale again.

I don't think threatening them is necessary cause when the person already changes his mind, he'll be sure to find other ways to escape the deal; changing his number and user account etc. No point getting all worked up over deadbeat timewasters, you'll only waste your own time and ruin your day. Life's too short.

Unfortunately for the system to be anything different it would require tons of moderation and support...already something in place = ebay. Everyone wants to save a few bucks by using soft, but if everyone would use ebay all of this would be taken care of.

You'd have a contract of price, no dodgy "I was offered 50 more from someone else" stuff, and terms and conditions that are monitored. Plus feedback...but we all want to save a few bucks :D so we deal with it.

eBay works in big countries like the US or UK cause the items you fancy are in other cities or states which makes it risky to buy and ship them without a moderator, hence its popularity there.

But Singapore is so small that it's not necessary to have eBay, why have a moderator and pay them a fee when you're going to meet up the buyer or seller in person anyway?

And eBay has a huge number of deadbeat bidders too who go MIA after they win the items, so it's not that different from what people here are doing: the deadbeat eBay bidder changes his account, the deadbeat local buyer changes his mobile number and forum username.

of course must do research. there are people who try to 'con' others on SOFT. Too bad the "buy and sell thread" cant post reply. Got dodgy ppl selling their wares at very high pricing hoping to con newbies... But then again considering the person keeps on posting his item means he havent found a person to con yet. LOL!

come on bro..does not mean that everyone who keeps on posting their item for sale is out to con newbies or other fellow softies for that matter.

you cant claim the seller is out to con people.

If the seller wants to sell at a profit he has every reason to do so. We can just ignore the thread. He forces nobody to buy it. Whoever buys it without doing his or her research only shows that its his loss and the sellers gain.

If you wanna complain check out SL. SL overprices stuff yet people still buy from them? Wanna sue them for conning others? No. They dont force people to buy. If youre unhappy dont buy. Simple as that.

There is no compulsion on soft that says sellers must sell at a loss.

It just depends on the individual.

well said. +1

If the sellers think that the price is justifiable, then they have all means and rights to sell their stuff. All we can do is tell others that the seller's goods is a little steep, but if there's buyers, who can complain?

And yes, SL is a very good example.

wad's SL? lul, either way, they buyer still could nego, but end of the day,its still up to the seller's integrity and the right state of mind to confirm, conclude and sonsolidate to tthe price agreed on.

one thing i've noticed with the buy/sell section is that ALOT of people try to sell something used for more(or roughly the same) than what it would cost to get it brand new.
