What Does Our Local Scene Need To Prosper?

eh dey rudra turnout at esplanade quite huge for a heavy band. u know y its gonna be a crowd puller playing at esplanade. COZ ITS A FREE SHOW...and everyone goes to a FREE SHOW. coz its FREE! so i dont understand all these nonsense "oh would a heavy band pull a crowd?" of course it would if theyve got quality like rudra. tight heavy music.

Crawldaddy: I'm personally finding it hard to break away from the 'normal' sound of what is expected of modern bands, so much so that I really have to look beyond the 90s, 80s and dive back into the 70's when a raw sound was just so cool.

In a couple of years bro, that's gonna be the 'normal' sound. Already a lot of up-and-coming bands in the UK and US are doing this 70s raw thing. Pretty soon it's gonna be the next fashionable sound.

Music goes in cycles. That's just the way it is.

panz3rr, it was packed cos its Rudra and its free.

if its some GuaMatMetalLeleh and its free, you will know how the turn out to be.

maybe that infamous dancing uncle will be there to do agogo.

aiya when submitting application to play at esplanade, im sure esplanade will find out how the band sounds like right. so i don't think we will have a GuaMatMetalLeleh band at esplanade la bro..haha. aiyah this topic has been raised too many times, its just inevitable.

th

ya lor...
what we can onli do is plug n play n hope for the best to come our way....

u want to prosper, try playing in other countries. Nobodys stopping.

This thread makes me feel very hungry. I've moved on from frog legs' porridge in Geylang Lor 3 already. I feel that I can take on some Aston's Prime Beef Cut. That or another trip up to Gelang Patah to hoot the seafood there...

time of the day to bump this thread to the top so that threadstarter can come in and say few words or thoughts that might arise after these couple of pages and the couple of links that were posted that revolve round the same topic.

If not, everytime it will turn out to be like a thread started with some response but to fade off again and when time to come another someone comes along and start the same thing

As such, i dedicate the biohazard version of covering bad religion, "we are gonna die..." to every badmother rocker out there!

Lets continue to rock!

yes, i was trying to say he, started this THREAD and i was hopping for him to come in and say few words after reading thru everything about what can be done, in his words, to patch the uneven-ness in the local scene he might have felt.

Dude, if you know nothing about what are the locale band music scene(or only know about covering green day inspired music for your band), i suggest you shud go down to woodlands yourself and check out the symphony guitar instead of asking volunteer to check out. They dont owe you any living to check out the guitar for you...

You understand? If you wish to carry on this, i love to converse in PM with you. If you have no idea about PM, its private message situated on top.

Cheers

Guys, cmon....let the thread be. you never know when someone might come up with a great idea man. as James said, if you dont wanna post, don't, but let the thread be.

i think the the scene lacks unity....and everyone's divided over the word "Genre." personally, i hate that word.

and ShyamRaj, have i ever told you that u have an amazing voice?! and i'm glad Withered Tree's back!!!

I agree,we need unity and genre just means the type of music we play,we dont have to be separated! The key to get the local scene to prosper is support(:

Actually, what we need is the local radio stations to play more alternative music. We have like 3-4 mothertooting stations playing the same music yo! shake dat ass!

And come to think of it, fans of the local music scene usually are in a band themselves.. like supporting each other.. :/

Typical Singaporean either listens to mainstream music, or no music at all. :/
But recently you see a rise in teens listening to more alternative genres of rock eg post-hardcore, screamo. But none of them go to shows also la.. all go club club yo! shake dat ass again!
