Finland and Sweden probably are the 2 best countries that produce bands in this category...
Dark Tranquillity represents this genre best, alongside, At The Gates, Eucharist and Unanimated (All from Sweden)

Mordium, The Abstract - Both from USA...
In Mourning from Finland...
Insomnium, also from Finland are probably one of the most underrated MDM band around... In my opinion, better than Children of Bodom...

I just discovered Insomnium like few days ago, freaking awesome.The legendary At The Gates = aural pleasure.

You might want to add Mors Principium Est into your list too.

Well, I'm not too worried if the good MDM bands are gone, in Scandinavia, we trust that there will be no shortage of MDM bands to come...

In Finland, Metal is a genre that's considered mainstream. Look at Singapore, they don't even play a single metal song on the english radio stations... I heard RIA promoting Grave before around 1am in the morning...
