Check out Hateform from Finland... Abit of trash metal here and there, and death metal as well...
Why is black metal pulled in out of a sudden? >.< If you want a good mix of thrash and black metal, Aura Noir might be for you.
Great thrash bands: Sodom and Kreator. THE BEST TEUTONIC THRASH. Slayer and Sepultura too. They are more brutal than the likes of Megadeth and Metallica if you really find them "slow".
I find today's melodeath very mundane. :/ It seems like all the big boys haven't really made anything grand recently. If you still want your value-for-money bands, only the likes of Arch Enemy and Insomnium remain.
I'm beginning to hope that one day ATG will reunite and light up the fire again.

WOAH In Mourning and Insomnium are the latest melodic death metal craze for me! Insomnium are just amazing. love their style, but its totally different from CoB's. less power-metal style and different style of vocals.
i also listen to a bit of Kataklysm, great great death metal band. other death metal bands that i recommend: Dies Irae from Poland, Hail of Bullets from Netherlands, Belphegor from Austria, Hate Eternal and Infestdead (by Dan Swano). one avant-garde metal band that i really like is Peccatum, featuring Ihsahn's (of Emperor fame) wife Ihriel. pretty good band. Arcturus is also pretty legendary, featuring many prominent members especially Hellhammer on drums.
and did i see Racer X? i love their album Technical Difficulties, especially the title track. Paul Gilbert is a genius and he is also full of humour. just check out his home page and you'll get what i mean.
and am i the only one who realises quite a large proportion of metalheads are into Pink Floyd as well?
