The Bassist's Effects Line Up

haha.. boss pedals kinda 'disturb' the original tone of the bass, tsk i don't really like... i get what u mean.. my guitarist like ce2's sooth-ness also..

but i see ur setup, more towards the TBY, remain original tone boutique setup.
i think a demeter optical comp in ur setup will be nice. ur sadowsky and bass RC works quite similarly actually.

i don't know if anyone here tried carl martin 's double bass chorus.. looks interesting.. but too bad 12V, for more headrm, but u got a fuel tank there (12V)... can consider..

YO bro, Ya sadowsky and RC work similar but RC have gain control so if u are having passive bass, ur signal remain good and for my usage it act as booster as well as another option for different choice of tone for ur songs.
Demeter optical comp very nice but no budget lol.
Fuel tank junior simple isolated power supply able to power 9V and 18V but not 12V.. Trilogic preamp not bad too.. 18V LOts of headroom.

In my opinion, CE-2B is smooth & transparent and i just need a bit of chorus for my playing. i dun really max my chorus, just a little onli.

As for unichorus, good chorus too.. but the price more expensive than CE-2B. With my frequency of using chorus, CE-2B work just fine for me.. Cheap and good. 5SW, you own one too, what ur opinion?

I like the CE-2B. Nice sounding chorus. A bit subtle. My main gripe is that it's a bit noisy. Was thinking of replacing it with another chorus, prob a higher end one. The Unichorus has caught my eye but I've not really had a chance to try it. Of course theres the Analogman Mini chorus which would be ideal but ex.

Yea.. Most boss pedals are noisy! As for analogman mini chorus, i thought analogman dealing mostly with guitar effects.. do the mini chorus affect the low end? Not familiar with this brand.. Any feedback?

the clone theory is a sweet pedal, i owned one for a short time

i think there's a video review of it on bassplayer.tv

but the thing that made me stick with the small clone... the thing i couldn't stand and the one thing bassplayer missed out, was a freaking NOISE

EhX small clone no noise???

aye, the small clone and stone are nice and quiet. the clone theory had a nicer tone and more possibilities but i couldn't get past the noise. bassist shouldn't have too much noise IMO, cos we tend to have shorter chains and fewer drive pedals. and there's no way i'm gonna buy a noise gate just cos of 1 pedal. all my pedals now are pretty quiet

eh but i'm having some gripes with the switches, most of the time there's a *POP* sound the first time i power and switch on my pedals. anyone know how to overcome this?

Common reason why many do not like having EHX pedals in their lineup..
Some of their pedals produce this annoying pop sound upon engaging, sometimes only when an adaptor is connected to it, sometimes for no reason at all!
Perhaps, get it modded to true bypass switches? I'm not sure.. I think it's best to ask them pedal experts!

well, i think all EHX pedals are true bypassed. and it happens with my true bypassed SD paranormal as well. but i think the problem lies with the true bypass itself, namely the switchcraft switches

nope. I got the ehx bass microsynth and i had to do the true bypass mod myself. The pop sound is inherent in the true bypass.

Oh yeah.. Btw, I've always wondered about something..
I've seen bassists using guitar effect..
Has anyone tried to opposite? Using bass effects on guitars? ;)

there are some that have tried...

Woolly Mammoth is supposed to sound good on guitar as is the Boss CE-2B. Never tried for myself so it's all based on stuff I've read.

i'm using subdecay flying tomato as a fuzz. gated like the woolly, so there's not wwwwwwioioieoiiiieeeeeiooo when u mute the strings.

common reason or just your perception/experience?

I have quite a number of ehx stuff, none has that popping sound, known people with ehx stuff and never really heard bout having popping sound in their ehx pedals.

True bypass doesnt get rid of popping sound btw.

ook... but most of my pedals are true bypassed anyway, both the ehx and non-ehx... ok in further detail

EHX english muffn (TB/no pop)
EHX small stone (TB/POP!)
EHX small clone (TB/POP!)
EBS multicomp (non-TB/no pop)
ibanez LU20 (TB/no pop/uses some shit switch that i dont like )
SD paranormal (TB/POP!)

and yeah, i am using an adaptor, as mr godspeed64 suggested. but the pop only happens the first time i engage the pedal

but screw it! i recently sold off my stone and clone. stereo electric mistress is on the way :-D :-D
