Smoking

AIYO. Super off topic already. Hahaha.
Anyway back to the topic... Something i've always thought about... Do your parents know you smoke? If they do, what was their reaction like?

kerplunk182: wah me first time die ah.kena **** upside down.but after awhile they get bored of asking to stop then just go with the flow.haha! i love redd ciggiess btw. =)

The first time I smoked and my dad found out, he scolded me for a good few minutes and then said, "Okay now pass me one, at least I don't have to smoke alone in secret anymore."

i dont know if this is true i have a friend who said his father bought him a carton of red marlboros for his birthday. HAHA.

thats a good question...Its like asking why are we borned. Why why why... why cant we stop questioning and count the number of days till we die? there are endless whys in this world. Why do people smoke? EYA. 13 marks.

Beg your pardon, Cheez. You forgot compound interest. :)

Assuming a growth rate of 10% for 36,500, in 10 years it will grow to $94,671.60 compounding yearly.

Of course, this is just a simple calculation. Assumptions could be tighter. But hope that smokers get the drift. Same idea as insurance.

Sorry for the late participation. ;)

If a person smoke 1 pack a day, that would be

$10 a day.
$3650 a year.
$36,500 in 10 years.

2 packs = double that.

One can certainly buy a lot of gear with that money....

Nah...

A pack of cigs = $10
Loads of gear = $72,641.25
Health and happy times with friends (playing with the loads of gear) and family = priceless ;)

Good call, pf, but you're compounding the entire 10-year sum over another 10 years. So, that's 20 years. Sorry to nit-pick. :)

As I say, the assumptions can be tighter. But I only compound annually. The banks compound daily. :D

Btw, its just for illustration...so I didn't think there is a need to come up with a full fledge table of compounding interest.

And 10% also debatable lah...but just to keep it simple.

edit: ok guys...apologies, better calculation below.

Here's a better calculation:

Principal: $3,650
Annual addition: $3,650
Years to grow: 10
Growth Rate: 10%
Compound 365 times annually

The magic number is $72,641.25 => still loads of gear. ;)

yeah, even if you just started today,
so initial sum is $0
and add $3,650 annually (ie just 1 pack per day)
at a very modest 6%
it's $50,996.50

pf, you shld be in financial planning.

and yes, dir, it's all about the money!

dont really get the whole social smoking thing. Is it really necessary to smoke to socialise with people? Non-smoker cannot socialise eh? Its only a matter of time before social smokers become addicted.

well i tink that happens alot in the corporate world, not entirely in the society.. In the corporate world, the people smoke and drink to socialise, and maybe at the end of the day, they get themselves a contract worth of 5872564million dollars.. but for daily socializing, i tink it's quite stupid to say that u smoke to socialise..

OMG...reading this thread feels like a maths paper.

Actually, it can be the reverse. smoking actually helps out with my finances.

Many a times i have to smoke with my clients when meeting up with them. got quite a number of lobangs and business oppurtunities during reservist smoking with the lao chiaos.

however, money can buy gear but money can't buy health. don't smoke because u tink it will save u money, think of health first.
