Randolf Arriola (embryo) Guitar Gear 101

thanks randolf, yeah it just seems different thats all, but it may be not what im looking for, so I may offer it for sale or trade soon.

Thanks anyways for your views :D

You're welcomed Snuf :)
Amp simulator devices are best experienced with a flat eq full range speaker system preferably studio grade if possible.

Studio grade usually means there are no extra enhancements to the bass and trebles. This is especially important for speakers and headphones for the studio mixing environment.

Other full range speaker systems include like Keyboard Amps, Bass Amps, Acoustic Amps, PA or even your Hifi and Mini Compo and PC soundcard's inputs. Because most of these full range amps include different degrees of enhancement in the bass and treble range it will affect the overall tone of your favoured amp simulators accordingly.

Snuff..Most amp emulating pedals have what we call 'negative feedback' which gives that 'big' sound, just like amps ...otherwise it becomes pretty useless.

>>> i donno what you are tripping on now-a-days buddy :?

Yup.... play u must mate!

Be it 3D magic or 3D rubbish! hehehehehe :)

Irregardless of what you'll play with you already play great so it shudn't be too much of an issue for you ya. Play the tools not toools play you. :)

Yes thanks bro randolf bro for your valued advice!

Cheeers! :D

YThank u soo much for the call on my Roland ST-50R solid state amp. That piercing and humming are killing me, man.

Are u starting a thread on solid state amps? I believed with ur vast experience in amp repairs, u've might come across good ones on par with the tube amps.

The pros and cons of solidstate etc...

Solid State Amps have been around since i dunno but "nong nong" time oredi ya.

Unlike what some might suspect that I'm a tube amp snob born with a silver "sponge" hehehe, surprise, suprise it's no surprise at all! Like myy fellow NS serving mates in sunnyland S'pore I oso started out with solid state amps, owned a Roland Spirit 30 in the 80's jammed and performed with Peaveys and Roland JC120s so ya like most of you I also played/play a solid state amp nw and then. :)

Basically for solid state amps the mods that apply to most stomp drive pedals are also app;icable to solid state amps.

My favourite Solid State amp is the Roland JC120. Some complain about the sterile tone which is easily resolved if u engage the overdrive knob as mentioned earlier and spend a lil more time with the tone knobs. Also for the other common complaint about "Hiss" issues which is because JC amps use speakers that reproduce more highs than your typical Celestion. If possible try using different speakers and you'll surprise yourself.

Satch recorded "Surfing with Alien" believe it or not with a DS1 into a JC120! Read this nong nong time ago with raised eyebrows for days and lately in the latest issue of Guitar Player he reinstated this fact. That's why I've been walking around last coupla weeks with that surprised raised eyebrows look all day long! Hahaha...

:)

More about SS Amps along the way ya. :)

My Roland JC50 stock speakers was swapped with and EH 12" 75W "cerestion" crone.

Best mod EVAH!

I knew someone who changed speakers on Roland SS and loved it to bits :D I heard the amp after .... pretty impressive !

But ED your little vox with that big ass EH speaker ...rocks

Hehehe yup nice nice. :) You mean EV speakers right? If yes, EV speakers are more efficient in design but a lil too loud and hard for my tastes tho but still kinda sweeter sounding than the stock speakers on the JC Amp.

The sweetest combi I've heard was coupling Greenback speakers with the JC120.

Makes me wish there was a local distributor for Celestions V30s and Greenbacks and a wider range from Eminence...at least. Sigh!

:)

Yo Dude Goose! That's a good one mate! :)

SMT technology with multi layered PCBs is inevitably prominent these days as it allows folks like Boss and Line6 to squeeze as much digital mojo technology within the size of the familiar stomp pedal. Amazing it is but I do feel it's mostly cost effectiveness that motivtes the manufacturers to go SMT

COSM
The latest batch of Drive, Fuzz and Amp "Modelling" pedals from Boss use SMT technology because it's impossible to recreate the entire COSM technology using traditional analog parts...it'll be too many parts and too big a pcb together with Roland's propreity COSM chip. The COSM pedals are basically imho the smaller individual modules that make up the entire VG88/99 system.

Moddable? Hmmmm....

:)

Ah! Good question! :)

Ok I know this is going to sound strange but this is how charmingly weird we guitarist are in terms of tone, the good, bad and ugly of it all. hehehe :)

If we compare the V30s and Greenbacks against the more popular stock speakers by Eminence the Celestions will lose out in technical specs of efficiency, volume and fidelity.

The V30 and especially the Greenbacks are some of the most inefficient speaker designs but hey they sound GREAT!

I told you this was gonna sound weird! Weird right!? Hehehehe

This is why my friends in the HiFi world are always walking around me shaking their heads going... tsk tsk tsk!

Is lidat wan la I tell uuuu!
:)
